So did you switch to the 14 month Fixed? Or Agile?
12 month fix for gas, before the price increase. 14 month fix for electric.

What has dimmed my enthusiasm for the "EDF Tracker" (??) is that you are tied in for both fuels for 14 months as I understand it. (I am still sussing it out). Whilst I believe you can switch into the Octopus 14 Month Fixed with no (?) strings attached  And switch back into Tracker or something else when conditions are ripe. And again the sums are different for heavy users compared with light. For the latter the difference in unit rate may not make that much of a difference when the bills come it. SC's cannot be ignored of course.

EDF Tracker is not exclusive to Uswitch, same rates via EDF website

£25 per fuel exit fee, possible to get £25/£50 cashback if switch E only/Dual Fuel via Topcashback

Looks like I did exactly the same as Doc_N.

Both switches were within the 49 day window of my Tracker tariff ending (15Feb), so I can switch back into Tracker at any time, if I wish.

Although the newer algorithms /calculations look rubbish, and won't be tempting me back any time soon.

When is exclusive not exclusive ...

I've always been a bit dubious about using cashback sites - if something doesn't go to plan before or after the switch and there arguments about who is contracted by whom. Being over-cautious perhaps

  • Not wishing to interrupt the current conversation but in terms of switching out of Tracker Dec 23 to a fixed rate, Utswitch have just flashed me details of the latest EDF Release:  "Exclusive £100 Energy Bill Price Reduction on the Price Cap" / the "EDF Energy Simply Tracker April 26" tariff
Unit rates Gas 6.2654, Elec 25.599p
    SC's Gas 17.682, Elec 44.131 p
I don't yet know what the exit charges are.
Sounds like it "tracks" the Price Cap less £100 per annum, new marketing wheeze
The unit rates are nothing to write  home about but the SC's look interesting
Comments from the forum would be interesting

Have you ever been a customer of EDF in recent years? Might be ok if you don't need to deal with a customer service human droid bot based in Manilla who can only read off a script and has absolutly no grasp of the english language or energy accounts...

I agree - that's what motivates me to put up with what may not be the best of terms from Octopus. We can moan about the deterioration in successive Tracker tariffs but we have to ask ourselves what are the alternatives, all things like CS considered

Interesting to see EDF offering tariffs with lower SC in light of OFGEM's proposal to mandate energy providers to offer tariffs with lower or zero standing charges in their review this year.

I'll be watching this space closely, as we're a very low usage household, despite there being 3 of us in a 3 bed terrace.  I suspect this is going to be a similar situation to mortgages and early repayment charges, the jump will only be worthwhile if the sweet spot is hit with the rate versus SC over SVR/fixed/TOU tariffs available.

I heard that once you leave Octopus they can't get your readings at all. Only your supplier is allowed to get your readings. If that's true then it needs sorting.

What am I missing?  Why would an energy supplier need to access your meter readings for energy someone else is supplying?
