Can someone confirm if there is truth in the statement that if one waits till after the renewal notice has been issued, that this counts as the tariff having run its course, and that in these circs the 9 month wait rule for rejoining Tracker does NOT apply. Or is this a fig of my imagination?
For the present my thoughts are to stick with Dec 2023 v.1 till it ends (for me) mid Feb by which time the situation will most likely be different (for better or for worse) from today.

I was considering the same, the email doesnt explain if you click renew whether it starts immediately or it waits until the "better" tariff ends.

However on my change tariff page, the fix is cheaper than unit rate currently on dec 2023 tracker, although the tracker has the cheaper SC, but at this time of the year the unit rate wins out.

Well for good or ill, I've decided to take the plunge and switch to Tomato, starting Tuesday. Given I can save immediately, there doesn't seem much point waiting until mid-Feb to act, and the rising gas price will have a knock-on effect on electricity. Also didn't want to risk Tomato pulling its current pricing given the activity in the market, although I think the risk of that is fairly low.
Here's hoping they stay in business long enough for me to benefit! Good luck to everyone else on deciding your next steps.

I did it few hours ago, delayed the switch over date a bit though as I didnt want it same day my sim is switching over in case I need to contact anyone.

Now in between leaving tracker to renew, or going to fixed on gas.  Interestingly the new dec 2024 tracker is not as bad the one's in middle of 2024 at first glance, although obviously worse than dec 2023.

Yes, that seems to be the case.

Are those of you fixing gas remaining on the current tracker for electricity until it expires and then renewing the tracker at that point?

The 12M fix is cheaper on both gas and elec today so am wondering if fixing both is better? I'm assuming gas wholesale prices affect elec prices.

I'm also getting the "Something went wrong. Please try again later.” error when trying to switch so have emailed them since I don't have twitter.

    electric tomato lifestyle, gas fixed.

I seem to be lucky. that my offer for fixed from octopus is still below 6p, but I guess my region maybe just cheaper for that.

If you contact them to change tariff with immediate effect you will have left tracker and will incur the 9 month wait. If you tell them to put you on today’s fixed rate at the end of your Tracker period you won’t have the 9 month wait but you are stuck with the tracker risk until the switch but they will honour the current fix even if it is no longer available at the switch date.

Even with a bit of wind tomorrow, the price isn't looking much better. I guess my last couple of days on Tracker will be relatively expensive ones, but on the plus side I made good use of the cheap elec on new year's day, so can keep usage down.

I got my renewal email on the 1st, had a look on the 2nd and was considering fixing but didn't have time to do so before work. Got home yesterday afternoon and had a look at my figures again and thought right I'll just fix. Had one last look at this thread before doing so and saw that the Octopus fixed deals have increased, checked mine and obviously I'm too late. Not sure what to do now, weather the storm, take the Octopus fix and hope their fixes decrease in future, or switch to another supplier - only So Energy similar to previous Octopus fix but it has an exit fee.

I'm a low user so the savings on tracker had been pretty minimal in the past 6 months, should've just dumped it before now  :#

Do you know this or is it just guesswork? I have yet to see anyone actually do it.

As discussed previously,  I arranged my fix but it was scheduled for after the tracker expires (by default).

There was the option to start it sooner as above.

    Hopefully that helps.
