Todays tracker prices for me:
21.19p Elec
5.34p Gas
Tomorrow:
16.61p Elec
5.34p Gas
Wind forecast looks fairly good into christmas and front month wholesale gas prices are ~15% off the peak too.

Tomorrow's record(??) low just emphasises the need to take a representative period rather than individual days in isolation IMOTelegraph Sam

Lowish, but not a record. We’ve had some 13s, and even a few 10s in the last few months. I’m happy enough with the rolling average, particularly when gas is added to the equation.Telegraph_Sam said:Tomorrow's record(??) low just emphasises the need to take a representative period rather than individual days in isolation IMO0 -
A weekend of relatively cheap gas is welcome.Dropping back below 5p would be nice, but let's not ask for too much!N. Hampshire, he/him. I saw a comment recently to the effect that the demand on gas to make up the shortfall in wind/solar generation recently will contribute to a depletion of stocks, and remember we are only just going in to what is the coldest part of the year. If we are to get freezing temperatures and perhaps snow, it is always most likely in the first part of the new year rather than the end of the old one - remember the old saying 'as the days lengthen, the cold strengthens'. The point being that whilst there is no real worry about shortage of gas in storage to get Europe through the winter, the lower the level it's at by the spring the more gas will be needed next spring and summer to build up stocks again, so the recent demand for extra gas to generate electricity will be a contributory factor in determining the gas price next year.1

Is there any scientific association between low temperatures and low wind speeds? And v.v.?Telegraph Sam

There could be. A large slow moving and slow changing high brings low wind speeds, and often the clear skies that result in the lowest overnight temperatures.Telegraph_Sam said:Is there any scientific association between low temperatures and low wind speeds? And v.v.?0 -
Not sure about a universal rule, but in our British climate the prevailing winds are south-west, coming in from the Atlantic & bringing relatively warm air.Telegraph_Sam said:Is there any scientific association between low temperatures and low wind speeds? And v.v.?Strong wind from the north east isn’t unknown and can be extremely cold, but is less frequent. So on balance there’s probably some correlation between warmer overall temperatures and higher winds, at least in this part of the world.1 -
The above hypothesis is based on my own observations, but I'm not a fully paid-up weather station. Whether one can extend the train of thought to predict calm cold conditions (or v.v.) influencing Tracker + Agile unit prices one way or the other - I will leave for others to confirmTelegraph Sam
