I don't see the benefit of tracker to to them at all. Agile at least helps them encourage  / discourage usage at appropriate times. Tracker basically doesn't.

That is probably reflected in the fact that with all the recent formula changes, Agile pretty much beats Tracker easilly.

They've said that both Tracker and Agile are loss making. That was before the Dec 2023 onwards changes.
That rather depends on whether you believe Octopus's public statements. I'd trust them every bit as far as I would British Gas.

One thing it seems to me is I think it's been a good gateway into TOU tariffs.  Once people are in, and Tracker goes up, they then have to make a choice:
stay on Tracker (reasonable profit for Octopus),
switch to Agile (swings and roundabouts),
switch to another smart TOU tariff (presumably reasonably profitable) or
jump to the SVT (reasonable profits for Octopus).
Other options include fixing (profitable for Octopus) or switching away (not profitable, but presumably the minority since no other supplier offers anything like Tracker or Agile).

Not that I think they planned it to go like that, certainly not initially - although maybe it's been a consideration in the recent formula changes - but it's undoubtedly been an interesting experiment at the very least.

Tracker has been beneficial to Octopus attracting new customers.

And that, particularly in the current climate, is a huge financial benefit.

electric past week or so on the high side, still on original tariff NE 17.05p today
If you're of a nervous disposition, don't look at the UK gas price today.

I have been "comparing" Tracker and Agile in my situation, at odd moments over the past weeks.  Usually there has been a slight advantage for Agile but in my view not enough to seriously consider a switch (to Agile).   More and more however the Compare app has been failing due to lack of data - it used to be just in the early hours.  Has anyone else been having the same problem?

They pull your data once a day so until that happens you won't have yesterdays data available.  For me it usually happens sometime in the afternoon.

It's been getting steadily worse (for me) to the point that the no data periods are the norm. If yesterday's data is not accessible it seems to cause the system to lock up rather than show the period for which data is available. And my 50 p sub has little to show for it ..

Mine usually starts off being available first thing in the morning, then gradually gets later and later in the day until I am an extra day behind, then it catches up by pulling two days and the cycle repeats. It seems to me that it takes them longer then 24 hours to aggregate all of the data from my local area. I've never had an issue with anything 'locking up' because the data isn't available.
