Does anyone know what Octopus's policy is on moving address and keeping the same tariff?

Am thinking in terms of the pre/post December tracker tariffs

    If you’re moving out

Just hit the big pink button above and follow the easy steps. We'll just ask for a few details:

    1. The new property’s address
    2. The date you move out of your current home and the date you move into your new one
    3. Opening meter readings for your new home and closing readings for your old one

Your tariff will stay the same, and so will your Direct Debit amount. Once we have a better idea of your usage at the new property we can help you decide if your monthly payment is right.

When you first move in, you'll be on our Flexible Octopus tariff, a variable tariff with 100% renewable electricity. Flexible Octopus reflects the wholesale cost of energy, and is always good value.

What you have posted comes under the category - Are you moving into a property we supply? as opposed to correct relevant answer already posted which you have quoted relating to existing customer moving home who wishes to take existing tariff to new property.

Invoicing: Do you find now that Octopus is at last quoting the opening and closing meter readings on the invoices, both from the smart meter and / or from manual readings? If so this makes the job of reconciling things much easier.
All my Octopus bills have quoted opening and closing meter readings. Initially a mix of estimates and manual until I persuaded them to only bill once a month, then smart meter readings after that was installed last January.

How do (or did) yours present consumption without quoting meter readings.

Note I had one bill where the Tracker total kWh billed didn't match the increase in meter readings. Presumably a rounding error but only 0.1kWh.
None of my manually generated bills have quoted any meter readings except when I was on Flexible. This may be a side-effect of being on Agile before Tracker as discussed earlier in the thread. The only figures on the bill are Rate (p/kWh), Consumption (in kWh) and Cost (£). Then total consumption and total cost before the standing charges are added. In the app, under Meter reading history, I have the Usage tab which presents kWh used for each day, and a Readings tab, which doesn't get used for billing.
Bills do not get produced automatically, so I only get them when I ask for them. Despite pointing out the problem on three separate occasions, I've yet to find someone knowledgeable enough to understand that something is amiss, let alone know how to resolve it. It is no great hardship, but it would be easier for all concerned if the billing system could produce a monthly bill. When I was on Agile, billing was working correctly.
  • That largely reflects my own experience except that I have been on Tracker throughout. Staff being unable to provide convincing (or any) explanations. It now looks as if readings are produced for both smart meters and manually.

There are also unknown unknowns - the one's we don't know we don't know
  • can anyone advise, i normally put my meter readings in and that makes a bill (when i was with SP), looking at my last bill with octopus its been a smart reading, so do i have to start to put manual reading in and that will make a bill or is everything done automatic by a smart reading
  • I think it depends on how confident you wish to be (!). I ended up putting in manual readings on the same day each month and this had the effect of generating the corresponding invoices. With meter readings.  I have kept this up when smart readings began to appear recently on almost the same day.. At first the manual readings seemed to override the smarts, now both seem to co-exist. Having got into the habit I see no reason not to continue as a cross check - added to which I am uncertain if you get the 2 x Wh of F's per fuel if the hard work is done by the smart technology. I get the impression we are exploring new technological frontiers.

Should be automatic, once a month.
If you ever request a credit refund, that might prompt a mid-month interim bill.

According to my latest reading of energy-stats.uk the average Agile price for the North East for the past 90 days has been 19.9 p which compares with 18.8 p for Tracker.. Other time periods will give amended figures. There may be more to it than these bare facts - do the prices include SC's for example? - but it does represent a first step in choosing between the two tariffs. If there is a net advantage for Tracker over the medium term, together with lower volatility, then I would have little incentive to change (to Agile). Any view to the contrary (or not) welcome.
Things may be different when Tracker is changed to the newest more expensive version. In London the increase is particularly great and Agile may well be cheaper. Unless they update Agile tariff too.

You don't have to, as you should get one automatically monthly, but if you do put in a manual reading it will trigger a bill anyway.

When we first had the smart meter Octopus reverted to generating bills on random dates, for example February was spread over three three bills. It took a bit of pressure to get them to go back to one bill per month, covering the whole calendar month.
  • I have a strange situation, mentioned before....long story short setup variable pay full monthly when we started on tracker but was in credit for some 6 months until 8th November 2023

December 8th 2023 bill came in and my account said payment holiday (no money taken)

January 8th 2024 bill has come in and now the debit on the account is -£260.

I'm not going to contact them as happy with my money in the interest bearing account but will be interesting.

I'm not concerned as it's working in my favour just thought I would update all on the anomalies of Octopus variable DD.
