Apologies if I'm being thick here - my only excuse is that I'm new to Tracker. But why do people use Gastracker etc? Do people not just check the daily electric price on Octopus's own app and decide from that whether it's a good day to do the laundry etc? And if prices are low, and if we're in Saver Session season, presumably do that laundry between 4:00 and 6:30pm to benefit from Octopus's previous ten day comparison?

I feel like I must be over-simplifying things but I can't work out why!

I use Octo-aid to find out what tomorrow's price is, in order to compare with today's. If it's cheaper tomorrow and there's no pressing need to do the washing today, it'll be done tomorrow. Unless the following day is cheaper still and it gets pushed back again.... If you wait to use the Octopus app, it'll only tell you what today's rate is.

Today's price is all well and good, but knowing tomorrow's price is very useful.
  • To Spoonie Turtle. I have now found the little bell on my desktop screen. The bad news is that clicking on this leads only to "Notifications", but nothing that would make finding and accessing this particular forum any easier (if there isn't a relevant notification). There must be a way of "bookmarking" this Tracker forum but they don't make finding it any easier.
Wrong bell, you've gone too far up the top.  It's only available on the board though, not individual threads.

If you want just this thread you have to bookmark it, and navigate via whichever menu takes you to bookmarks.

Day-ahead prices, to be able to plan a bit.  And much more accurate than looking at the Nordpool price and either calculating it oneself or estimating it.

Also, actually, for me viewing Gastracker in a browser tab is quicker than opening another app and scrolling down, and much quicker than signing into my Octopus account via browser.

Plus historical data, which isn't readily available from Octopus.  You'd have to keep your own record or look at the breakdown in the bills.

There are quick links to Bookmarked Threads and to My Threads but I don't see how to "register" this thread or forum on either. Rocket science

There are also unknown unknowns - the one's we don't know we don't know
  • This is what to press to bookmark an individual thread

And this is to follow a board (NOT an individual thread)

I've checked and it's the same on a desktop.  If those symbols/functions are not showing up for you you'll have to ask for help on the other board I linked to.
  • Looks like there's a left aligned and a right aligned bookmark icon. And one version where it is solid and one where it is just outlined

Solid ones are for threads you've bookmarked. Outined ones you haven't bookmarked.

In Octopus Tracker news, I've been enjoying my 4.09p/kWh gas today but it's still stubbornly above the psychologically-satisfying 4p/kWh mark!
