I wonder if it is worth me questioning this with Octopus and saying - why did you put me on the 1 year fixed length tracker 3 weeks ago, when it says this is only the case from 11th December 2023 in your FAQ?
Being as you are on existing cheaper tracker rates why question apparent possibility that you will benefit from having been put on 12 month fixed term than version with no end date  which they can end at anytime after giving reasonable notice.
The implication in the FAQ seemed to be that anyone who is already on the cheaper tariff with no end date can stay on it indefinitely.  If they are planning to force everyone onto the higher tariff, I would have thought that they would have announced it at the same time to get all the bad publicity out of the way in one go, but I could be wrong of course.

I doubt that they will put people with no end date on a situation any worse than me - if I had to bet on it, if they do anything soon they will say that everyone on the other cheaper versions will have their end date set to 10th December 2024 as a blanket change.

I guess they won't want to keep people on that cheaper tariff forever, but it's anybody's guess when they want to force people off of it.
They don't need to force people off the older tariffs. They just need to give reasonable notice that from some future date the calculation will be harmonised between all versions. Each version's T&Cs allow them to do this. Whether they exercise that option remains to be seen. They haven't bothered to harmonise the level of the cap so far, but this hasn't cost them yet. Leaving people on the old formula will cost them from day 1.

As soon as the 11th December Tracker appears on the Octopus Compare app I will track it for how much more tracker may become against cosy for us.

For reference I have let the developers of the app know their is a new tracker product so they can get to work on it 🤣
  • When I renewed in June I was moved to the latest version of Tracker with new caps, standing charges and a 12 month end date.
    Which version?

We renewed in August coming off July 22 tariff, put on the Nov 22 tariff with higher caps but no end date, and for some reason lower SC than our previous one.
The original V.3 with 40p/11p caps.
Sorry I should have been clearer, I meant which version were you put onto?  I'm curious because yours had an end date and our renewal didn't.

Some customers are on November version with no end date, other customers are on same version with 12 month fixed term.

I asked a few weeks back about this and it seemed like customers moving to Tracker were being almost "randomly" moved to either the last November or Feb version of Tracker, and randomly with or without an end date.

I moved onto electric Tracker less than a month ago, but they put  me on the November 2022 tariff which seemed strange (with an end date).
  • I am wondering if this is their way of reducing the number of people moving over to tracker?

With regards to people being given an end date.  I assume I do not have one?

  • Luckily moved onto tracker last week gas is Nov 2022 V1 and electricity is Feb 2023 V1 neither have an end date. East Midlands maybe others were given an end date previously based on region?

I assume so too, as that's what my tariff info looks like (but just electricity).

    Already has the new calculations

  • Results of my latest Savings Session: I am better off to the tune of £0.05.  Get rich on that.

If I am on Tracker Nov 22 v1 for gas , no specified end date, SC 25.56 + VAT
and for electric also Tracker Nov 22 v1, again no specified end date, SC 45.99 p + VAT
Region [for both :)  ] North East England
can I ride on the back of others participating in this thread more expert than myself in such matters that the best thing to do is nothing, ignore daily variations, keep mum, and forget about switching until something unforeseeable happens?
I haven't downloaded the octopus app. Perhaps I should do.
