At the moment, not having a smart meter, and paying variable direct debit, I provide manual meter readings on the first of the month, which generates a whole, calendar month bill (which is the way I have always done it, irrespective of tariff type).
With a smart meter, paying variable direct debit, how does billing work with Tracker? Can you specify which day of the month the 'final' reading (the one that would cause a bill to be generated) is taken?

Octopus will set things up and/or change things so that smart meter reading gets taken to fit in with when customer would like bill/statement
Presumably, the smart meter takes a reading every 24 hours, in order to apply the unit rate for that preceding 24 hour period to the energy used over that period, then a 'final', bill generating reading, on the day of the month specified by the customer, is taken, generating the actual monthly bill?

Only moved to Tracker on 17th June so no bill until 1st July.

I'm assuming Octopus calculate an average unit price as they do with my Agile Outgoing and it shows XXkWh at an average of X.XXp?

I do have a Smart meter.

Assuming that's what they do with monthly readings but I can't see any reason why they would do that when smart meters send them half hourly readings on your usage - I am the same came onto tracker on the 10th.

The Smart meter shows 30 minute readings for my gas that I can view in "My Account" section.

Tracker only has a daily unit rate, so, AFAIK, they apply the unit rate for each day to the energy used each day?

That's what I think they do too - but for people not on smart meters I assume its an average...

What would be the point of hour-hourly when there is a daily unit rate?

I guess they already have the half hourly readings in the energy part of the account, so they would just use the total for the day but I was saying that in to say why would they use an average when they know very precisely the energy used on each day.

Are you guys saying that you don't get billed based on each days tracker usage with each days tracker price?
If you have a smart smart meter, you'll get billed based on your daily consumption at that day's rates.
If your meter is dumb, by accident or design, you'll get a bill with a estimated daily consumption billed at the daily rates.
There are some examples of Octopus's daily estimates upthread.

Yes you're right  but I can also see 30 minute readings not just a 24 hour one. I can see how much heating my water used in the morning and then hob use later in the day

I was guessing there won't be a line on the bill for each day with price and units, just one average? Hoping someone can say who's been on Tracker longer.
