  • Notification of last Savings Session reward, just received. Grand total = 25 p.  Hardly worth the effort. I suspect that the real benefits are reserved for those that can load shift charging an EV or two out of the session.

So far the ones doing best are those that can export from a battery.  Which makes sense, the idea is to reduce demand and if these are actually increasing supply (does it work like that?) then that's even more help to the grid.
  • I’ve had an email to say how many points I earned on 29/11 and 1/12 but the 1/12 ones aren’t showing yet. I have allegedly saved 2.1 kwh over the two sessions. The email also mentions free energy sessions but I haven’t received any information about those. Are they only in certain areas or maybe not for tracker customers?
  • I'm not sure I understand how/if having a battery makes the Savings Sessions more rewarding. Batteries might be more helpful to Agile people if they make it easier to phase one's offtake. Complicated compilations. I just know that whenever I have started to evaluate solar batteries I have always come to the conclusion that for me (low to medium consumption) the financial sums just did not add up.

In the specific case of Saving Sessions, you can buy electricity for <30p/kWh then sell or back during the Session for £4 a kWh.
But low, sell high has been the basis of mercantile trade for the last 8000+ years.

That is still true.  A dozen saving sessions per winter, where having a battery might earn you £10 a session, isn't enough to change the economics of home battery storage.
Bit if you've already got a battery, the extra £120 will be a bonus.

  • @OrizB + @Qyburn. I'm not sure if these arguments apply to people like me on the old FIT system also. As opposed to the replacement tariff which depends more on importing and exporting energy in a way that I have not yet been motivated to get to grips with. Is not the Octopus Import-Export tariff (Flux ??) a substitute for Tracker?
Either way gut feel tells me that you have to be in the high consumption stakes as a condition for funding battery purchase and amortisation.

I made nearly £5 (£12 over the pair of sessions) and all I did was turn everything off for the session. It's shortly after I get home from work, so I use a fair bit of electricity normally.

Are you paid for "deemed export"? If so then you could view export as "lost", although equally you could Say you're being paid to export even if you use it all yourself.

That's not the only option. You could be on Tracker for import and at the same time be on Outgoing Fixed and get paid 15p/kWh for your export. In addition to the FIT generation payments.

I think this system is still a bit ropey - I received an email saying that I had saved 2.24Kwh and got 7168 Octopus points worth £8.95.  I find this hard to believe as this is more than my entire electric bill for that day.

When I look at the Octoplus screens in the app, I've been credited with 3792 points which is still actually quite good.

One of the 2 savings sessions I probably didn't hardly save anything at all.  The other one I happened to be away so it was running on base load, so that was probably the main savings.
