  • Oh no!  It had the price yesterday.  I know I can use the formula with the Nordpool data but I never get it accurate, it was more convenient just to be able to check

I am usually at the top of the queue when it comes to defending Octopus but, to date, I have heard absolutely nothing from them with regard to my monthly DD payment (due out tomorrow) or my future tariffs (which as it happens will not change). If I click on the link in the App 'see your email' there is no email.

It will be interesting to see if the email ever arrives.

I got my email for the 'Go' tariff on Thursday, and by that point my DD had already been amended, even without the email, have they not already adjusted your DD?

Please can someone explain to me how Octopus calculate the daily usage on Tracker? I am on v1, gas only, and have just received my first bill, for 28 days usage. Average price is 9.91p per kwh.  As I don't have smart meters, I had assumed that they would simply take the total month's usage and divide by the billing period (28 days). But I've actually got a bill which lists my daily usage throughout the month, with daily usage rising a little as the month progresses (which make sense, given the onset of the colder weather).  The range is from 6.61kwh to 11.01kWh.
I presume there is some fiendishly clever formula for this, but what is it?

I'm in the same boat. There is some sort of model behind the scenes, but I don't think Octopus have shared it with the world.

They just say (in the Tracker FAQ) that, if you don't have a smart meter, they use industry data to estimate daily usage. I always found it to be very accurate on the odd occasion that they didn't use smart meter data - no more than around 10-15p, which is quite impressive.

    From the FAQ
    https://octopus.energy/tracker-faqs/

If you don't have a smart meter, we use the readings you provide to calculate your usage each day, using industry data available from a third party (Elexon for electricity, and xoserve for gas).

They take to total amount for the period and apportion it on a daily basis 'using industry data available from a third party (Elexon for electricity, and xoserve for gas), they then work out the average daily UR for the month - the apportioned usage is applied to each day's actual UR.
Don't know how accurate it's going to be, for me, in September, where the first half of the month was water heating only (as it had been for the previous couple of months), but with heating on for the second half of the month - does the 'industry data' take weather conditions into account, I wonder?

The industry data is mainly just the recorded actual usage in a bulk system level - as in the aggregate of all customers.

I did receive an email, but in my online account, when I click the 'see my email' link, it's not there! :D

It says the e-mails don't include conversations, so maybe as these e-mails appear to have been manually sent out, they haven't registered there.

They changed my DD several days ago, no e-mail about that that.  Which tariff(s) are you on?  Odd that you haven't had communication about that though, Go etc. customers heard before Tracker/Agile even though nothing's changing for them.
