Afternoon folks. Nearly the weekend. We're almost there... I'm crawling toward the finish line. After voting this morning we collected our fruit and veg box and I spent an additional £2.35 in the store on a bar of soap that was 20% off. I'd like to try it out and if it's any good, I'll return at the beginning of June to stock up. Thankfully the sale is going until June 30th so I don't feel the immediate need to bulk up and then blow my budget this month.
Our veg & fruit box contained: apples, bananas; oranges; a lime; a lemon; vine tomatoes; mushrooms; broccoli; cucumber; garlic; baby potatoes; carrots; leek; and a zucchini. Checking Lidl's weekly specials, this weekend I'll pick up a head of celery for 35p and an eggplant for 45p amongst other cheap veg. The ham hock I buy this weekend from there will be boiled immediately and portioned up. My plan is to make split pea and ham soup this weekend with a ham hock bone and its stock that are both in the freezer, along with the new ham hock, celery, split peas from Lidl and carrots from the box. The weather here has been raining and cold all week. It'll be nice to warm up this weekend with some filling soup.£2.35 spent£294.30 / £400.00 remaining6 -
Another small spend today for mushrooms and yoghurt so just over £2 spent leaving £182.33 for rest of the month.

Couldn't resist a 5 pack of extra large teacakes at garden centre when I popped in to rummage through the massively reduced summer bulbs. Spent £18 on bulbs, that could have cost £88. The teacakes are just screaming out to be toasted with lashings of butter and a stiff cuppa over the next few days lol x
So its a total food spend of £5.99 / £320- Grocery Challenge: April £263.60 / £250

Oh dear, another £65 gone today; I'm more than halfway through the May budget & it's only the 6th! Stocks are high, but I really need to behave for the rest of the month. Bought today: milk, cream, yogurt, noodles, tea, apples, mushrooms, kale, broccoli, spinach, beansprouts, meat (2 x large chickens, 2 packs of mince & a pork loin; half of the pork, 1 chicken and one pack of mince went straight into the freezer) bread & rolls, Branston for OH, mozarella for pizzas next week and a few odds & sods on special offer or reduced. Tomorrow at the market I'll stock up on fruit, veg, cheese & fish for the week; I need to try to keep it under £40, then get a grip for the next three weeks!Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)7

Got to collect my prescription today and take a jacket into the dry cleaners for cleaning (and I'm going to get them to put new buttons on it) so I might swoop into the supermarket but I need to be disciplined (and it is Friday which I hate as it is always busy)... or I could ask DH to helpSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

Been to a local street market today for fruit and veg, first time for over a year
, I really enjoyed it, except I felt a little like a fish out of water. I felt awkward. Over a year ago I'd ask for 'say' 5lb of potatoes, and while the assistant was weighing out the veg, I'd go up and down the stall gathering a lettuce, a cauli, or such, and hand them over to be tallied. This time I had to queue for an assistant keeping space.
I wasn't disappointed the fruit and veg was second to none! A year of buying fruit and veg online has been a rather 'hit 'n' miss' affair.
Bananas, pink lady apples, sweet plums, button mushrooms, carrots, parsnips, long peppers, lettuce, cress, cherry tomatoes, Jersey Royals, normal potatoes, 4 baking potatoes - 2 shopping bags full for £19.50 - this lot should last me until next Friday, I'll be needing more milk and cream by that time too. Already have the ingredients for our main meals and breakfasts till the end of the month.
Popped into the Co Op (cos I used their car park) and picked up a bottle of HP sauce, and some noodles which I forgot from the 'click and collect', cost £3.65.9
