Afternoon all, current spends are £82.73/£350 which is a bit higher than I'd like for this point in the month. Although I do have quite a bit in the house. Need to do a rough meal plan so I start to make space in the freezer, as it's looking pretty full.Grocery Challenge 2024

Did the weekly shop and have more to feed one day this week so it was higher than I would like at £69. I'm going to do a cheaper meal plan this weekend for next week. Total so far in signature:)7

Did a bit of a stores shop at just before 8.00 yesterday - all lovely and quiet but almost no cat food. I'm not sure how cat food has been added to my food budget (and litter, and medicines we can get from the sm!) - no wonder my budget is a little stretched! £39 stores and about £70 on other stuff, it will just be bits and pieces now.
Our own asparagus needs harvesting so that becomes a fantastic addition - favourite light supper is steamed with a little melted butter, salt and pepper, a frugal sprinkle of grated cheese and a poached eggSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £1286.68/£3000 or 42.89% of my annual spend so far

Visit to A5da this morning as had run out of milk. Still getting mine delivered but as DH is lactose intolerant, I haven't worked out how much to order. Just a small spend of £8.98. YS strawberries, apples and oranges. Also tandoori paste as I have a notion to make tandoori chicken and chips. Also will have lots leftover yogurt and the tandoori paste contains 24 portions. Have left £186.69/£2504

Thank you everyone for inspiring me, you've given me a kick where I needed it!
Think I'm on track to stay away from the shops until Friday when no doubt we'll be needing more dairy, veg and fruit.
My plan of stretching daily main meals by turning 2 meals into 4 is going well, So far I've...- cooked and froze an extra lasagne (by adding a couple of carrots and a few more sheets of pasta with extra béchamel sauce).
- Turned a recipe for a beef, onion and mushroom pie into two pies by adding a potato, and freezing one.
- A packet of 4 breaded frozen cod fillets has been made into 4 meals instead of two we usually have the 4 between us both (yes I know we've been greedy
).
- Yesterday I made 4 spicy beef and cheese calzones, freezing two.
- Today I've cubed 2 chicken breasts, and covered them with chicken tikka paste and yoghurt, they'll be marinating until tomorrow where I'll make a curry, freezing half for another day.
- I've plans to make a lamb hotpot into two hotpots, and doing the same with a sea food pie.
That's a week's worth of main meals for the little effort and the little expense of 'bulking' out the recipes, plus it's a good way to 'maybe' reduce our waistlines, they could certainly do with it!A bit of portion control will do us good.
