Weekly Flylady Thread 19th April 2021

What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also accept that, sometimes, life just gets on top of us and we can't keep up, maybe because we're time-poor, not in the best of health and/or we have littlies who need us. We are definitely NOT control freaks aiming for perfection and utterly spotless show-homes.
Extras
Welcome to the weekly Flylady Thread. You're more than welcome to join us in the everlasting battle against dust, grime and gibble. The aim of our thread is to make those onerous tasks less daunting, and to support each other - and to make time for the finer things in life!
Please do remember we have to abide by MSE rules; each post should, ideally, include some mention of flying.
Thank you Valli for last week's thread.
Please follow the forum rules on this thread as Flylady has been here a LONG time and is a fabulous support and resource for lots of us. All posts should have some Flylady-related (ooh a compound adjective) content!
The idea is that even if you are really busy you don't need to fall off the wagon!
Every room comes back around next week so please don't stress about catching up
These lists are only suggestions and not a must do list; you are more than welcome to post and follow your own lists.
A few of the basics before we start the week.
Hotspots are areas where if one thing gets put there, loads of other things follow!
Daily routines are anything you need to do on a daily basis like washing, swish and swipe kitchen and bathroom, ironing, making beds, vacuuming high traffic areas, making meals etc.
Night-time routines are all things which make getting ready in the morning easier, preparing clothes for the next day, making lunches, swish & swipes of the kitchen and tidying the living room before you go to bed plus personals like shower/brush teeth etc.
Fling Boogie - stick on some loud music, grab a bin bag and whiz around the house finding items that can go out with the rubbish, recycling, for charity shop, basically anything that will stop it cluttering your home.
Swish and swipe/S&S means have a quick wipe over an area such as a sink or toilet to prevent the build up of dirt. This is usually done on a daily basis
HHE/HHC/HHI Half Hour exercise/challenge/ironing ... run around for 30 minutes to the Benny Hill music frantically cleaning exercising or ironing.. other music may be used if you prefer!
WM ~ Washing machine
TD ~ Tumble dryer
SC ~ Slowcooker
BM ~ Breadmaker
DW ~ Dishwasher
SOAADFA ~ Sit on 'bottom' and do 'nothing'
KH/XH/FW ~ Ex-husband and other not so polite versions
DH/DD/DS/DW/DP ~ Dear husband/daughter/son/wife/partner/whatever
OH/SO ~ Other half/significant other
NN ~ nice neighbour
Toxic (friend/mother/sister/whoever) ~ person in your life that seems to exist to make your life miserable
AF ~ Aunt Flo 'time of the month'.. nothing to do with flying but it comes up often.
ETA ~ Edited to add
Gibble ~ miscellaneous crap that appears forever homeless
Dot-to-dot ~ pick a small area (not a whole room) like a chair/coffee/table/shelf/worktop or wherever- thats your first 'dot' - totally clear it - clean it - and only put back what should be there - deal with what you have removed (not just move it somewhere else) then if you have time move on and do the same to another 'dot' -the idea is just like a dot to dot puzzle, you aim to join up all the dots and have a tidy room. The trick is to keep each dot tidy until you get them all joined up! All credit to AnW's Mum for this one
RoD ~ Room of Doom, the one room that feels like it is a permanent pit and cannot be used to its potential!
MAD half hour
- Mad is the abbreviation for Make A Difference.
The idea is that you have a Forth bridge (ie never-ending - or just huge) task but that you work on it in half-hour bursts. This way you know you ARE stooping, and that you won't get it finished but you will make a difference - so it might be clearing out - the garage or shed, or clothes sorting, or weeding - you get the picture - but rather than keep going until you've lost the will to live you do half an hour...but, eventually those half hours will get the job done!

Morning xx
Thank you for the lists xx One day I will follow them properly- I hope.
My eye is governing my life at the moment. My vision is still clearer than it was on Saturday, but getting up, showered and dressed has set off a little bleed. And while it keeps bleeding I'm at risk of a retinal tear -= more laser treatment; or a retinal detachment= sent to Sheffield for emergency surgery. I'm hoping for the best and preparing for the worst.
This morning I have washed my hair and de-gorillaed my legs and pits. And PJ & S will provide emergency accommodation for Sweetie if required. Banging headache presumably because I didn't drink enough at the weekend. And ate crap. Blimey it's a confessional 😁
This morning I've made my bed, rinsed out the bottles and cans for recycling put away a roll of birthday wrap and had a brew. Appointment at Eye Clinic is at 2.50. Lift arranged. I really don't like being reliant on other people but needs must.
Hope you all have a good day - especially those returning to work today.

TY for Fred... I hope your head is feeling better but I didn't want your headache!! I'm hoping its not a migraine sneakig in.. my nose is feeling a bit weird.
Everyone out to school eventually, nothing like on time.. I will be having words tonight.OH gone to the gym in a sulk because I told him to shut up shouting.. I cannot abide shouting and it is all he is doing lately.. if he wants to bellow he can go live elsewhere until he can be quiet, I don't have shouting any more.. that left with CF.Today I am scraping all the mess in the front room and pointing OH at it.. that can be his job.. he has the fish to clean and the car too.. the inside of that car is disgusting. He has the litter to change in all the litter trays too.. they are a bit smelly and I don't like it.
I am going to do the kitchen and if I get bored in there I have the middle room I can look at. There is ALWAYS more laundry to do and I want to get the carpet in the hallway vacuumed and washed because that is looking nasty again too. I would like to sort some bits in my room because it is horrific in there.. it would give any hoarder a run for their money.. I know I have a problem but I do try usually to keep on top of it.
I need the kitchen clear by Thursday for the new WM but I need to spend a couple of days sorting my room too.. I might have 2 rooms as priority this week... ooh.. no.. best not because I won't be able to decide which one! Today Kitchen.. Tomorrow bedroom and OH can tidy the front room today and the kitchen tomorrow.. He can scrub things and wash windows and tidy the plastic tubs and mop..
utility bill paid today.. and I believe a naggy nora and a ranty round were on my case lol.. opticians opens at 10 so I've not simply 'put it off' yet. just having a cuppa..LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)10 -
😊 piggers - you made me smile thank you xx
I've fed the birds and put out the recycling. I'm going to soak a bowl of pots while I sort out Sweetie's seed and water and then WUDUPA.
Slowly.

Shower done.. while I was up there I tipped harpic in everything and made a laundry mountain. I have an empty box so I will get the school uniform soted out when I get chance.Boog made me a cupp so I shall slurp that then dry my hair.. and make a start in the grotty kitchen. I might actually need to do 2 DW runs before I can do anything else. I have 2 indoor plants need rehoming.. I have decided I do not like houseplants.. The cats dig in them so I have soil everywhere..I also have too many small appliances on my work top.. I need to deal with that.
ok.. it's off to fling I go.. anyone else wanting to join me in a HHC or QHC.. or for the whole afternoon but with a 2pm lunch break?LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)9 -
Lovely walk with the dogs and I've done a quick hoover through. Going to put the first of three wash loads on the line. This afternoon I am meeting friends in the park, the first time I'll have met up with more than one person (except family at Easter) in over a year. I already have my chair and can of coke ready.Spend less now, work less later.11

White linens sorting is ongoing. At the moment I've put everything I want to keep ready to go back into the attic, and am packing up all the donations and labeling them on the dining room table. It's rather a lot of white bedding but hurrah because *fling*!OH has just has his second jab and while he was being needled Layla and I had a lovely walk through the nature reserve behind the hospital. I used to work there 25 years ago before they got to grips with the woodland and it's now fabulous. It links up with a farm that the city council bought about five years ago, so the reserve runs for miles in what is now technically the geographic centre of the urban area. The lie of the land precludes afforable development so I'm thrilled they've done such a great job of making it somewhere we can all access. Layla absolutely loved it and when we reached the stream she had a paddle, a drink and a lie down so she's very happy with life today. She cried when she saw Belovéd walking away from the car without her - that's a first. Now off to the dentist for the work that needs to be finished on the recently crowned tooth that promptly developed an abscess the minute it was finished. *sigh*Better is good enough.11
