So, if you're getting your portion of the money paid, are you allocating the money you would have spent to the car or garage pot?! How's the car pot coming along, do you have a car/amount in mind?
the car fund is my pb’s. Sadly car prices have gone up so much that I will need double what I spent last time to get a comparable spec and age. I have almost the original price in there, but need to double it. I will keep mine going as long as possible. It has low mileage and I service it every year and replace or repair issues straight away, so I hope it will keep going for many years while I gnash my teeth about car prices. I could buy a brand new cheap thing now, but I don’t want that 😖 I like my cars to have a decent engine and all the fun toys. I’d also be very, very wary at clearing out my savings completely. I don’t want to be in that position again if I can help it.Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien

That sounds like a solid plan. Does Mr WW benefit from it at all and might want to chip in occasionally? Shame that prices have doubled but fully agree that if yours is still working and safe then keep saving up for the one that'll please you and last you1

I can relate to the wanting a bigger car savings pot ….. I had to buy a ‘new’ car recently - clung on as long as I possibly could, but the previous one became so unreliable it was becoming unsafe … 😢 It took half my savings! 😳 But, at least I don’t have any debt and I do still have some savings … 🤷♀️

KK, making a large purchase without credit and still having savings is amazing! You did brilliantly. Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien

WinterWarrior said:We have our own cars and our own money. We just share the house bills. MrWW pays the council tax as he earns a touch more and then overtime. It works for us. I was scarred for life with the first MrWW, so feel much safer this way. MrWW would be happy to share a car, but I know exactly how that would end! He wouldn’t intend to take over, but it would happen. I would have no car while he was at work and if I wanted to go out he would end up coming along and driving, gradually over time I would have no car, just a paid chauffeur (when convenient) 😖
KK, making a large purchase without credit and still having savings is amazing! You did brilliantly.I think you are wise to keep your own car, for now at least, especially if Mr WW has a definite daily need for his - any shared vehicle would inevitably become more his than yours. I’m hoping that as we move further away from the Covid period when there was very little production, that the cost of cars will fall a bit relative to incomes by the time I come to buy again. But then again, with the push on electric cars (totally useless for me) by the government I am concerned that the shortage of conventionally fuelled cars will be increased again. I think it’s something to watch and even buy a year or two earlier that you might have thought to, to get the kind of car you want. I’m hoping that the next car I buy will be the last one I buy for my commute and after that, if I am forced into an electric car by that point it won’t be as impactful on me as I will have more time to manage the inconvenience of them.Thank you for the kind comment about still having savings after buying my ‘new’ car. It felt good and bad all at once! 😂😂KKAs at 15.06.25:

Knowing you have independence if needed is priceless 😊3

We do the same. We share any joint bills, house stuff and costs for the kids, but keep our own cars and the rest of our money separate. It works for us as we have different priorities."If you can dream it, you can do it". Walt Disney3

@KajiKita I am hoping electric vehicles will become fit for purpose before we are forced into them! I just cannot understand the point of a car that’s incapable of a long journey!@jwil I agree it works much better for different priorities. It would foster resentment if I felt my hard earned money was going on his hobbies and I like to save more (even though the safety net can sometimes be for us both 😖).I have managed to get my steps in again today and met my new friend (which added a good 15 minutes to my walk, for standing and gossiping 🤭). I re did my nails..which now look atrocious…I seem to have lost the knack instead of perfecting it! I may have to try and tidy them tomorrow. And I binged the first 3 episodes of Bridgerton.
i hope you have all had a brilliant Sunday ✨☀️Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien
