    I saw something on MSE ages ago about using a lump sum and it suggested splitting it into three - debt/save/spend. That’s for smaller windfalls though not millions 😆 I still get excited by Fridays too, I even quite like working Fridays as everyone is in a good mood. When I was in the office we often used to go to the pub at lunchtime or after work. In the old days when I used to go into the office 🤣

    Exactly. I would love to have the house paid, but not under those circumstances ☹️
    Definitely on the much smaller windfall scale @Sun_Addict, but debt/save/spend is the way I’m going, with spend being the very smallest. the hard part will be to keep the savings as I’m not great at that. I hope to be able to build on them once the loan payments have gone, I would be £600 a month better off without those.

    Not really. My largest loan was a 5 yr large one to buy a car, I hope my car will last many, many more years, but when it needs replacing I’d like to have the funds to purchase it outright and still have a safety net. So that’s the long term aim. We have 10 yrs left on the mortgage and just a smidge under £100k left, so I wouldn’t even think about that until it gets down to a manageable amount. It will just be lovely to have something saved for the first time in a long time and Not Dip Into It! 🤣

    I was asking as I find it easier to not touch savings if I know they have a purpose, like car replacement.

    Have you thought of where you are going to keep your savings? Somewhere not instantly accessible, like premium bonds or a notice account, should help with not frittering the money away and make you have to think before spending.

    I'm saving for a newer car at some point so I agree that it's a good plan. Mine is middle aged but still passing it's MOT no problems. I can't imagine life without it though as both the HT and I have joint problems so I'm saving at the same time as trying to pay off debts. It would probably make more sense just to pay off the debts but the peace of mind afforded by knowing that I could buy another car if I had to is priceless. I also have a list of things that I want to do and places that I want to go to (see - more lists 🤣 ).

    We are currently looking for a new (to us) car to replace the 2 we have currently, due to COVID we no longer need 2 cars as OH no longer needs to work away from home, his workplace has confirmed that they are happy for all the staff to work from home ongoingly (this works better for us as OH may not see the housework that needs doing, he does the majority of the cooking 😄). I am itching to start saving for the new cars replacement 🤣 (mad I know), which I hope to be no earlier than 10 years time, I would like the majority of the savings to be done in about 5 years if possible to give us peace of mind.

    I love Friday afternoons as we do off timetable extracurricular stuff with the kids at school from 1pm. It's lovely not to be nagging them about work and presentation and just be able to chat and build relationships. Really nice way to finish the week.
    Bottom line;
    £49k paid off
    Car HP paid off
    Debt Free!
    Saved Escape fund and moved out.

    Current focus; saving Emergency fund
