What a shame about your meal. So disappointing. The rest of the day sounds good though. Very dank and dark down here, fairy lights on. Hoping it will brighten for village festivities later.

    enjoy your treats

Nothing worse than going out for a nice meal and then being disappointed by it!  We go out about once a month for a meal and it seems we are disappointed more often than not so over the last few months have decided we'll just stick with places where it's cheap and OK rather than expensive and OK, IYKWIM!  We quite often use 'spoons as we know what the quality is like and they are all pretty similar wherever we eat - everything is edible and definitely cheap, even the drinks!

I didn't even know that Winter edition Ritter sports was a thing....and home made shortbread is easy to make yourself. We used to make vast quantities to go with the coffees where I used to work. Would that be a bad thing if you started making it yourself though?

I had a meal with my book group last night - it was at someone's house so we didn't have to go out for a meal and be disappointed!   We all took contributions, i bought stollen bites and frosty fancies but some friends took homemade stuff - cheese and leek quiche, potato salad and meringues with cream and chocolate - yum :).  I know there is a shortage of chefs at the moment so that might explain your disappointing meal.
    Happy Saturday !

  • @CRANKY40 👋 not seen you for a while. Are you and the troll well? Winter editions are macaroon, caramelised almonds (I think), marzipan and spiced biscuit. I got the first 2, no sign of the marzipan or I would have wanted that too. Making shortbread could be very dangerous indeed (although I did get a tin from Lidl).
@carolbee I hope the festivities are good.
@Deni_debt-free_dreamer meringues are my favourite! I didn’t know chefs were scarce right now!
@joedenise we don’t have a very local spoons or I’d be there too. The nearest is a 60 mile round trip, but the food is perfectly ok and the prices good.

hi, i do some work at an airport and they mentioned it at a meeting i went to - partly cos euro workers left after the B word but then Covid meant hospitality shutdowns and people had to find alternate work and never went back to their previous roles.  A couple of people at the meeting mentioned friends who'd left cheffing and retrained into other roles ....

i love meringues but have never made them!

We're good thanks. Minor trauma which involved the HT being awarded PIP (which although is a good thing meant me facing up to him actually being disabled). He took it in his stride as usual, I was ready for a fight and was taken aback when he was just given an award and upset because he has inherited the problem from me.

Anyhow, that Ritter winter thing sounds amazing. I'm wondering where I can get my greedy little mitts on it locally now.

Ah cranky that must have been hard, but it is absolutely not your fault. You had no way of knowing how much it would affect him, if at all. It’s definitely a good thing for his future and if it makes his life a little easier then that is a wonderful thing to have xx
I found the Ritters in Lidl and can report that the macaroon one is very good indeed 😋

  • @Deni_debt-free_dreamer I have made meringues before, but not for a while. I don’t remember them being difficult, you just have to bake them on a low heat…and if they crack or get smashed no one cares because Elton mess is amazing too 😁
