Just bought a some DOT and started Staking it on Kraken. Interest rate (RPY) of about 12%. That's phenomenal compared to what you could expect to receive in an ordinary savings (or even in a regular fund)

Yes this some risk but with the Crypto bull market continuing it seems mad not to. And to those worried about risk, a Limit sell order takes care of losses if things ever seriously go into reverse gear.

That's phenomenal compared to what you could expect to receive in an ordinary savings (or even in a regular fund)

That is because you cannot lose 100% of your capital with a savings account.   And "regular" funds are less risky.

 but with the Crypto bull market continuing it seems mad not to. 

That is what all inexperienced investors say at the end of a bull market...

The price drops rapidly and your 'LIMIT' doesn't get executed; happens frequently with spread-bets. Alternatively your platform goes to the wall and has no FCA protection.

When the price of something collapses it is more than possible that the limit sell won't be exercised quickly enough.  There is no benefit from a limit sell if no-one wants to buy.

Many a person has misunderstood how limit sell orders works and have lost quite a bit/all of their money because of that misunderstanding.

Christ based on some of these replies you'd think I was advocating blowing your kids savings and inheritance on a bet in Ladbrokes, cider in hand. The hypocrisy is off the scale too, look what happened March last year in supposedly 'low risk' funds.

Nobody is making any moralistic judgement about the source of the money or your choice of beverage - if it's yours to gamble then it's entirely up to you what you choose to do with it, but the point being made is that it's reckless to be so one-sided in your assessment being all about the upside without any apparent recognition of the downside.

That's not hypocrisy - the undeniable facts are there for all to see that conventional investments dipped significantly last March, although they recovered quickly.  That doesn't mean that speculating on crypto is a comparable risk though....
