I would await the letter... everyone who has had theirs disappear is because a letter has been sent out

The people who I know who are still waiting have had the grants hope this helps... I think it’s completely random security checks

From what I’ve read it’s been a mixture and based on letter seems to be were either the figures don’t match their records (CIS), money being Pd to different account, suspected to be using agent but not declared so on TR or risk that account accessed by someone fraudulently. The only thing different between mine and others that didn’t get checked is I have 2 numbers linked to my account so my wife can check it and I got the fake HMRC phone calls on my mobile.

Apparently it’s a surf1 letter... never received one before... is it quite a straight forward process?

You can view copies of the letters here https://www.icaew.com/insights/tax-news/2021/mar-2021/hmrc-issues-self-assessment-repayment-verification-letters

basically need to provide identity docs, proof of bank account for repayment, all CIS slips and details of company you worked for, statements showing all payments from these companies going into your bank, and fill in questionnaire about whether you use agent, get help or previously gave your log in to anyone else to use

Received the above letter through my door just now (2nd version on ICAEW page).  A few days after my pending repayment disappeared.  Which seems totally consistent with what Claire2012xz has said.  Thank you.
