    Yes that's a V5C as can be seen by the letters above the blacked out section top left.
    I thought that may be the case. It was just the fact that it says below “this document is not proof of ownership”

    Then provided your details are all shown correctly on it the first NIP should be served on you within 14 days. If you haven't got it by now you have the makings of a defence (albeit a difficult one to run).

    Of course, looking back at the beginning of this, you don't actually know whether you have been detected speeding at all.
    It just seems as though they have me bent over a barrel, with my pants down. Because it seems from what you guys have said, it’s near impossible for me to prove that I have not received it within the 14 day window.

    I am very confident it caught me speeding. Although..... there was a car in front of me who was speeding, probably going even faster.

    I was behind him but taking a slight left bend. It was when we got onto the straight bit of the road that the speed camera was in our view.

    I wasn’t too far away from the car in front, but I was not right up his a**e

    That’s  definitely a V5c from April 2019 onwards;...I hope you made a note of the registered keepers name and address before you obliterated it with that black felt-tip pen of yours.

    Obvs... Because you don't own the car, yet you are the registered keeper.

    Ohh yes of course. What an idiot I am! Haha my bad.

    Could the police force use that as an excuse / reason why I haven’t yet received 172 form? Because I do not own the car?...  Surely not though 😬

    No. The actual ownership isn't registered anywhere.

    The Registered Keeper - the person whose name the V5C is in - is the person legally responsible for the car. They're the one that gets the s172. They just don't necessarily own it.

    Think how few things in your life actually have your legal ownership registered anywhere...

    If you’re the Registered Keeeper and nothing has dropped through your letter-box by now it’s a fairly safe bet that you are in the clear;

    ...PC Plod was probably having a Jimmy Riddle behind the bushes when you zoomed past.

    Gotcha.

    Well then, I guess that if the NIP & 172 form comes through the post whenever in the future for this offence, I guess I don’t have a leg to stand on? 😳
