Hello all,
I was driving my car the other day in a 30MPH zone and stupidly I was speeding quite excessively and a mobile speed van was looking right at me. I got home to check my speed via my dash cam, I don’t even know how I got that fast, but I was doing 49MPH in a 30 zone.
Yes I know that speed is ridiculous and I have no defence at all. The roads were quiet and I just wasn’t paying attention.
My question is, does anyone have an idea of what the punishment may be? I have read so much stuff online and I can’t seem to find a set answer.

Will it be 4-6 points and a fine, or will I be summoned to mags court? And/or both?
I already have 3 points on my license and have been driving 5 years:
thanks

Sorry, I have to be the one to ask... but why did you need to wait until you got home to check your speed on the dashcam? Don't you have a rather visible speed display right in front of you in the car...?
49 in a 30 is the very top of the guideline fixed penalty band. 50 would be over. So depending on what reading the van actually got, possibly a fixed penalty, possibly single justice procedure (effectively postal court). FP is the only "non-court" option.

'Band B - you will be put in this band if you were between 11 and 20mph over the legal limit. You may need to appear in court where you would be fined between 75% and 125% of your weekly income. Between four and six penalty points will be added to your licence or you would be banned from driving for between seven and 28 days.'
Bear in mind that with between 7 and 9 points on your licence you will be just one more FPN away from a totting-up ban, and your insurance premium is going to go up sharply as a consequence.

Those Band B guidelines only apply in court. There is no reason why the OP should have to go to court for the quoted speed - he will be offered a fixed penalty.2. With 7 or 8 points he would NOT be one FP from a totting ban. An FP is 3 points, making 10.or 11 in all.

Thanks for the clarification. OP currently has 3 points, so if he gets another 3, it'll take him to 6 points, at which level there is normally an impact on insurance premiums. That's likely to be a bigger financial hit than the £100 fine.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Maybe you’ve been lucky and the Rozzer was in the back of the van and had just taken the film out of the camera prior to dropping it off at ‘Snappy Snaps’ on his way home.
Fingers crossed. 🤞

I bloody hope so guys! Total idiot for driving at that speed, I know there’s no excuse for it. I just hope I’ve been lucky. Very much doubt it.
If my Speedo was right and was doing 49, is there any likelihood of just 3 points and a fine?0 -
