From my vague memory of seeing the bidding book I believe he just used the owner of the house as the fake bidder.
Is it all possible that all that happened was the agent had scribbled down the name of their client next to the bid?

No this is not the case. Every event was logged, so viewing times, actual bids with names next to them. So this other bidder probably bid 5 times and I could see their name 5 times with my name mixed in-between.

IF it is the vendors name, I think it's a computer screen and it's a CRM detailing the conversation on the house.
Phone call from X offering £.
    Reply from Vendor stating...
    Phone call to Y...
    Call to vendor...

What a load of twaddle, if you were dumb enough to overpay, thats on you no one else. Sounds like the agent did a dam fine job for his client but now needs to get a restraining order ....

have to say think you just got too excited and over bid. did none of your family help you with purchase if you were vunerable prices in a street can very. you say agent might be working with the seller. i hope he was as that means the agent is working for the seller which is who their contract is with not you.
you got into a bidding war (true or false) but if agent thought you would go £32k higher and you really wanted the house then no difference in you putting an offer in and seller rejecting you bid as agent or seller thinks you will go higher.
up to you if you take it any further but do tell us how you get on as think it would make good reading if you did try and take it further.

The only step forward is to speak to the Ombudsman and put you case to them. I wish you all the best. x

    See my earlier post.

If this is a complaint about illegal or criminal activity, the Property Ombudsman will not deal with it

    https://www.tpos.co.uk/consumers/advice-for-consumers/sales/sales-faq#illegal-criminal

Also the agent may not be a member of TPOS
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

@lincroft1710 I stand corrected. If I could edit my post I would.
    Thank you :)

If the EA was in cahoots with the vendor, would this be illegal?

Of course the EA and the vendor are "in cahoots." Whose agent do you think he is?
