What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version
of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not
fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately,
necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to
make the whole task easier and quicker. We also accept that, sometimes, life
just gets on top of us and we can't keep up, maybe because we're time-poor, not
in the best of health and/or we have littlies who need us. We are definitely
NOT control freaks aiming for perfection and utterly spotless show-homes.
Welcome to the weekly Flylady Thread. You're more than welcome to join us in
the everlasting battle against dust, grime and gibble. The aim of our thread is
to make those onerous tasks less daunting, and to support each other - and to
make time for the finer things in life!
Please do remember we have to abide by MSE rules; each post should, ideally,
include some mention of flying.
Thank you Valli for last week's thread
Please follow the forum rules on this thread as Flylady has been here a LONG
time and is a fabulous support and resource for lots of us. All posts should
have some Flylady-related (ooh a compound adjective) content!
The idea is that even if you are really busy you don't need to fall off the
wagon!very room comes back around next week so please don!!!8217;t stress about
catching up
These lists are only suggestions and not a must do list; you are more than
welcome to post and follow your own lists.
Also adding a declutter mission each day will help to gradually clear the
clutter and make flying easier.
A few of the basics before we start the week
Hotspots are areas where if one thing gets put there, loads of other things
follow!
Daily routines are anything you need to do on a daily basis like washing, swish
and swipe kitchen and bathroom, ironing, making beds, vacuuming high traffic
areas, making meals etc.
Night-time routines are all things which make getting ready in the morning
easier, preparing clothes for the next day, making lunches, swish & swipes
of the kitchen and tidying the living room before you go to bed plus personals
like shower/brush teeth etc.
Fling Boogie - stick on some loud music, grab a bin bag and whiz around the
house finding items that can go out with the rubbish, recycling, for charity
shop, basically anything that will stop it cluttering your home.
Swish and swipe/S&S means have a quick wipe over an area such as a sink or
toilet to prevent the build up of dirt. This is usually done on a daily basis
HHE/HHC/HHI Half Hour exercise/challenge/ironing ... run around for
30 minutes to the Benny Hill music frantically cleaning exercising or ironing..
other music may be used if you prefer!
WM ~ Washing machine
TD ~ Tumble dryer
SC ~ Slowcooker
BM ~ Breadmaker
DW ~ Dishwasher
SOAADFA ~ Sit on 'bottom' and do 'nothing'
KH/XH/FW ~ Ex-husband and other not so polite versions
DH/DD/DS/DW/DP ~ Dear husband/daughter/son/wife/partner/whatever
OH/SO ~ Other half/significant other
NN ~ nice neighbour
Toxic (friend/mother/sister/whoever) ~ person in your life that
seems to exist to make your life miserable
AF ~ Aunt Flo 'time of the month'.. nothing to do with flying but
it comes up often.
ETA ~ Edited to add
Gibble ~ miscellaneous crap that appears forever homeless
Dot-to-dot ~ pick a small area (not a whole room) like a
chair/coffee/table/shelf/worktop or wherever- thats your first 'dot' - totally
clear it - clean it - and only put back what should be there - deal with what
you have removed (not just move it somewhere else) then if you have time move
on and do the same to another 'dot' -the idea is just like a dot to dot puzzle,
you aim to join up all the dots and have a tidy room. The trick is to keep each
dot tidy until you get them all joined up! All credit to AnW's
Mum for this one
RoD ~ Room of Doom, the one room that feels like it is a permanent
pit and cannot be used to its potential!
MAD half hour - Mad is the abbreviation for Make A Difference.
The idea is that you have a Forth bridge (ie never-ending - or just huge) task
but that you work on it in half-hour bursts. This way you know you ARE
stooping, and that you won't get it finished but you will make a difference -
so it might be clearing out - the garage or shed, or clothes sorting, or
weeding - you get the picture - but rather than keep going until you've lost
the will to live you do half an hour...but, eventually those half hours will
get the job done!
Mr S/A/T/M/L/Al - supermarkets Sainsburys, Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Lidl, Aldi.
You get the picture!!

Morning all!
Thanks for the list Natty. I had a long hard think about things yesterday and decided that I am not going to repeat last weeks stupidity of trying to do so much. DH and DS are capable of feeding themselves and I wont stop cleaning the house but I will rein things in a bit. Work is going to be really busy for the next two weeks then I have a week off.
Exercise class first thing, beef to go in the SC for a casserole, I want to wash doggie blankets, LR fire to clean out then a little flying in the kitchen. Paid stuff at home today.
Hope Monday is kind to you all x12 -
Morning all,
Good for you YL xx I am going to adopt the three D's approach - Do, Dump, or Delegate. I am sure a lot of the things I do can just be dumped and no one would notice! Work today, then I have a Teams meeting for work later on this afternoon, should be fun with the children around my feet,,, not.
All our pupils back today, really can't wait to see them. I have unloaded the DW, fed the chickens, made DD packed lunch - really should have done this last night - now to get ready for our day xx12 -
Morning all and hope it all goes well for those of you returning to normal at school.
I have a couple of days off. I'm going to collect my new glasses today so while I'm in town I'll get socks for DH. Think Poppet may have destroyed them all.
Other than that it will be the Mondailies - dust living room and bedroom and change bedding- and usual dog walks and stuff.
Oh, just remembered there's some council paperwork to peruse and approve.
Have a great day everyone.Spend less now, work less later.12 -
Morning xx
Thank you for the lists Natty and Valli xx
YL - I started to watch the racing this last lockdown after H, friend and colleague, told me about ITV7. H and her husband are really into the horse racing and her husband is gutted that he won't be able to go to Cheltenham this year. I'm on Annual Leave next week so will be shouting at the tv on several days. Let me know if your DS is going to be there
Went to bed at 10pm, woke up at 6.15 and got up at 6.30. I certainly feel less groggy than when I sleep in - stripped my bed when I got up so bedding is swishing as I type. I also nipped out the back in my nightie to put out the rubbish and recycling, and draw some fresh air into my lungs whilst listening to the birds.
Just realised that we'll be changing the clocks soon - I do wish they wouldn't! Cunning plan is to move my bedtime / wake up time to BST while I'm on Annual Leave next week - then I will hopefully have got over the worst of the grumpiness before I return to work.

FLING!!!!!Goodbye small people.... I am NOT a morning person...
Twinkle looks like a zombie she is so tired.. Dot is screaming, Squeak is grumbling and Pixie is so excited she is almost wetting herself. I've yelled at OH for standing around while I got 4 childrens ready for school, Twinkle for licking her glasses, OH for dithering about watching me and not helping, Dot for not getting dressed, flapping about while I was brushing her hair and OH for 'looking' in a drawer for a different skirt for Squeak.. she got skinny so hers fell off.. He was looking in the drawer, like a suitable skirt would wriggle out.. ot touching anything.. just looking... ARGH!!!! Typical morning at the Bean residence!
Raining so I have washing for OH to dangle about the hovel.
DW needs loading.. I might do that now so it is done..
OH can do cat trays.. punishment for annoying me.
Moomin needs kicking.. I will check her timetable now.. 10:20 her first lesson so I will hoof her at 10.
Dot has broken my airer so I need to get a new one of those.. I shall add that to my list.
Quids transferred to OH as he was over his limit. I sorted mine last night! Phonebill came out.
Yesterday I switched DS2's phone tariff and saved him £2 so he pays £5.50 a month.. good enough for him. I am not sure what to do with Moomins.. Do I switch her tariff to save money and get more data now OR do I get her a new phone with a better tariff (currently £15 and I can save £6 a month there? I think thats just decided it tbh, saving money is paramount at the moment.
I need to phone about Dots new glasses
Chap coming to look at leaky guttering and loft critters on Wednesday morning.
I will add more shortly.. but OH just got home..LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)10 -
Morning everyone. I'm up and about, sweating like a wotsit, but have achieved 3 boxes packed, and a fair bit of rubbish thrown out. I have a gap, a big gap, in the cruddy section and I'm so pleased to see it. I even packed up some stuff that I had in my 'go to' box behind me, although I did put some other stuff in it..😆
Third cup of tea drunk, just off to shower as have to declutter my car of tissues, MOT due at 11am so fingers crossed she passes as I really don't want to fork out for repairs.
Depending if my little car passes then I can go and source a lovely grey rug for the living room. But whatever the outcome I need to hoover and dust downstairs. Then I'm going to do nothing after that...just watch TV.
Good luck to those with children going back to school this morning.. xxxMortgage Free as of 20.9.17Declutter challenge 2023, 2024 🏅 🏅⭐️⭐️

Hi
Thanks for the thread Natty.
Did the kitchen yesterday - technically was last weeks list but it's a win so I'll take it.
Mumof31kindebt I know exactly where you are re the grief - work work was doable - housework was not. I couldn't even iron for more then 5 minutes at a time when I lost my sister...(I like ironing). In time it will be better. As Piggers says - limit devices, shut doors and get the dishwasher. And get a big one.
Sold an item on ebay - got an offer which I missed but messaged buyer who reoffered and added some on for signed for postage (was a free p&p) so I need to get that packed. And it's a huge sale in that it is one from my extensive and eclectic collection of CDs...in lockdown I have been (slowly) working through them, playing them and I realised this one was one I could easily get rid of. Probably for more than I originally paid, doubt I've played it this century. Others may go to the CS. I will just keep those I truly love.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016
