Legally should you have a path outside your home before the road?

It's a footway, not a footpath if it's adjacent to a road1

If you do go with this house, I'd check that you can lock the front door from the inside with a key rather than a thumb turn. Ours could be unlocked from inside with the thumb turn, which is great for fire safety so you can get out without keys, but not very good when our toddler could just open it and run out into the road. When we changed the locks, I got the anti-snap barrels that you can lock with a key from both sides.1

I really think you will be OK, like I said ours had no frontage but neighbours had black railings and gates, it always puzzled me why we were different but just assumed it was the layout the developers wanted. You really won’t give this a second thought once you’ve moved in, I always warned the children every time we exited to “mind the road”.

The footpath by your front door looks like wider than a standard paving slab width. But you should try negotiating on the price.0

Surely, if you're getting less land than the other houses, you should be paying less?
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?0 -
I don’t believe we are getting less land there is just no public foot path outside of ours0

What you've shown us has loads of space in front of the house. From your title I was expecting something like this (which is on a through road)...

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to put more paving slabs down from the door to the drive if you wanted to although it might then 'encourage' others to use your path as a public footpath. If you're not happy with the design then you still have the option to pull out.0

Thanks all! I’ve decided we are going to stick with the property we Iove it and have realised it’s not going to be as much of an issue as we initially thought5
