This is supposed to be a moneysaving site, now i want to buy a new dishwasher because those things seem amazing!
I completely went overboard when we first had it and put all the glasses in there to wash after I put a few in to wash and they then made every other glass look so much dirtier in comparison. I still marvel at how sparkly they are now.
I've yet to discover any dishwasher or dishwasher cleaning tablets/rinse aid that will not ruin glassware over time. I'll always wash my decent wine glasses by hand now.

So how do they work when it comes to unloading? The big advantage I find with the basket is that I can take it to cutlery drawer to empty.

When you load it you put all the knives together, all the spoons together etc. Then when unloading you can just grab all the knife handles with one hand, all the fork handles with the other and put them away. So, even if your cutlery drawer isn't right next to the dishwasher it doesn't take many trips.
Nah, that sounds too much like a faff to me. I don't want spend time "organising" my dirty cutlery.
You only organise at the point you put the cutlery in; knives in one section, spoons in another, teaspoons together, forks together... micro seconds when loading makes unloading a doddle
As opposed to just dropping them in any old order into the basket, then taking the whole basket over to the cutlery drawer when clean.
Which is what many people do - takes longer to unload as each piece has to be taken out and sorted separately.

I'd disagree. I bet I would load/unload a traditional cutlery basket a lot faster than you could do with a cutlery tray.

I've got bog standard ones so I don't care :)
Any good leaded crystal doesn't reside at my house so far, so no need to worry about that stuff.

Shampoo? No thanks, I'll have real poo...

People seem keen on Bosch? Miele is too expensive for my usage, I was looking at Bosch / Neff. Is there anything between them?
We have a Neff (with an upper cutlery tray), but we took it out as we tend to put tall things in the upper shelf, so have never used it.

We had a Bosch before that, and to be honest, both seem to clean just as well, but the Newer Neff does seem a lot quieter, but that is probably just because it is a newer model.

We have two dishwashers.   One with the basket, one with the tray.

The tray is better.  It's arguably easier to load (unless you've removed the separators from the baskets) and it's definitely easier to unload.
You're also always picking up by the handle, never sticking your hand into the tops of spoons and forks that people subsequently put in their mouths.
That's without the fact that the bottom drawer holds more and becomes so much easier to load.

The basket is not going to win the dishwasher war! 😂

Having just bought a new dishwasher with a cutlery tray, I kept the cutlery basket from the old dishwasher in case I didn't want to use the cutlery tray.
Loading cutlery takes longer, but is more outweighed by the speedier unloading and the fact I know that no one has touched the 'eating end' of the cutlery. Also, the cutlery seems cleanerI

This is supposed to be a moneysaving site, now i want to buy a new dishwasher because those things seem amazing!
My parents had one for years and I did without one for years. Then last year during the lockdown I just absolutely had completely enough of washing dishes. Our water is hard and it always left spots, glasses still looked dirty and I was just fed up of doing it, as well as the fact that I am rubbish at washing dishes, there was always a dirty spot somewhere on something even though I used to wash and then rinse separately.
I bought a dishwasher which is now called the magic cupboard, because you put in dirty things and clean things come out...Magic!
It is now in my top three of purchases for the house ever. The other two being the electric blanket and the woodburner, which is merrily burning away and keeping my feet toasty warm as I type.
I completely went overboard when we first had it and put all the glasses in there to wash after I put a few in to wash and they then made every other glass look so much dirtier in comparison. I still marvel at how sparkly they are now.
I have one but have to be forced to use it unless I have people over - which in 2020 was never - I'm not a cook and find it easier to wash my mugs and the odd cereal bowl / side plate once a day. It kind of begs the question why I am designing my new kitchen with a dishwasher, and a space for a tumble dryer in the utility....I have no plans to sell in my lifetime.
No man is worth crawling on this earth.

So much to read, so little time.
