This is supposed to be a moneysaving site, now i want to buy a new dishwasher because those things seem amazing!
  • We have a top cutlery tray, works brilliantly. We had to move out for a few months last summer for building work, the place we move to had a cutlery box in the bottom, so I've been able to directly compare the two.
Top cutlery tray wins hands down. Easier to unload and the freed up space in the bottom is perfect. We can fit in dinner plates in the bottom rack and pint glasses in the top, no problem. We have a Bosche.

Dishwashers with top trays are also usually more expensive than the basket variants...

    Since the 80's.

BSH are the parent company.  Bosch, Neff & Siemens are the same family.

Edit: soft drinks and water in pint glasses  :D not constant beer drinking.
Could get shorter pint glasses, like the Camden ones or the dimple tankards.

For those with a tray... I assume they arent removable? With the basket we just lift it out, carry it across the room and unload to the cutlery draw... I guess with a tray its walking back and forth between the two?

That probably depends on the size of your kitchen, and the proximity of the cutlery drawer to the dishwasher... for us they're not very far apart, so there is no need to remove the tray.

With the basket (which we had previously) we took it to the cutlery drawer to stop the bending over when unloading.
  • I have a Beko with both a cutlery basket and a top tray.  I use the top tray for all of my cooking utensils, spatulas and the like that are too long to stand up in the cutlery basket (where I put all my cutlery).  It saves me taking up space on my top rack and works very well.
