I called the council , waited waited waited on the phone and it was time for the to close....ggggrrrrr...
does anyone know how is this unit i came across : ...will it be any good for a 46 yrs chat living along and if i fall, maybe, it can dial https://www.amazon.co.uk/amazon-echo-flex-plug-in-smart-speaker-with-alexa/dp/B07PDJ9JFF/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=alexa&qid=1614139407&s=amazon-devices&sr=1-1my friends numberThe unit you have mentioned is ok for giving commands to - such as 'Alexa turn on the light' - but is less suitable for the use you want, for a two-way conversation, as it doesn't contain a decent speaker, hence the low price. The £39 unit would serve your purpose much better - and has a touch screen for easy set up. It also has a reasonable built in speaker for two way hands free phone calls.0 -

The link was in my earlier post - but there it is again. it's a limited time deal so it will go up in price - and soon, but they have promos every few weeks across the echo range.
And you should still get in touch with your council tommorrow - preferably around 2-3pm - after lunch and plenty of time before they close.

I think you'd have to make your kettle, TV and lights 'smart' if you wanted Alexa to switch them on or off, but I have no clue how you'd do that, nor how easy it would be to 'train' Alexa. I have a friend with limited sight who's had some of these things set up, but Alexa responds better to the person who set them up than to my friend.
Having had experience of the alarms and fob systems, I'd strongly recommend getting in touch with the local authority. My late parents were able to try various aids but it was trial and error to find what worked best for them, and they were able to make those trials at no cost, rather than buying kit which didn't do what was needed.
In the end for an alarm system they went for Sovereign Careline: it's cheaper in West Berkshire but not limited to that area and you may find something similar locally. Yes, it's an ongoing monthly cost, but it's it's not a large cost, and it's designed to do what you need, ie alert your wife if you fall.Signature removed for peace of mind2 -

Yess....cymruchris
I spoke to the council today and the said i need to speak to the adult social services and they will ask you several questions and see how they can help you. I asked them please forward the line to them and they said they are closed to so please call on monday and speak to them...So i will call them up Monday but i seriously & religiously do not wish to pay any charges as i am struggling anyway.....i hope many people will understand...most important is paying my children's (they are abroad) school fees and their uniform costs and their illness costs. I have many many illnesses and i just cannot mention all them but if anyone wants to know i will mention it.....its hardly confidential.0
