In week 2, I spent exactly £99.00, making £200.01/£460.00 for the month to date. Pretty much bang on target, I'm just a little bit irritated by that penny
DS1 is into the last of his three weeks leave. To be fair, he buys most of his own food, so I won't notice a huge difference when he goes back (except on the electric bill!).Debt free since December 2015. It can be done6 -

Big shop done at the weekend - to top up the Click and Collect amount I ordered more freezer bits - I have all dinners and most lunches now for this week and next, which takes me up to pay day and the end of my challenge month. I still need to buy in fresh bits like milk, fruit and veg between now and then but hopefully that won't be too much of a dent.
Big shop (most Tescos, some Aldi) came to a total of £81.72
Oh, and I've just ordered a 25kg bag of potatoes, which came to £7.50 - that will last us more than this month thoughas will some of the freezer bits I've bought this month (eg I have extra sausages and mince in, and probably other bits that I'll check at the end of the month and menu plan into next month's meals)

Just £7 to add for our affordable grocery shop, would highly recommend if you have one nearby. Will start a shopping list for later in the week, but imagine it'lll be a small list as we have most things we need in.Grocery Challenge 2024

Went shopping for some vegan baking supplies in M*rks and spent £5.04 on oat milk, treacle, dark muscovado and bananas bringing my running total to £52.95/£124. That works out at £3.53 per day to date which isn't bad at all, definitely on the right track at the moment."She could squeeze a nickel until the buffalo pooped."

Evening folks. I’ve definitely racked up a few spends since last Wednesday. £12.87 last Thursday at M &S for several quick curries for an easy lunch, along with apples. On Saturday, OH and I did some walking around the canal in our city. I wanted to visit a Lidl on the other side of town after the walk but he convinced to visit the one near the canal. Turns out it was smaller than the other location but still good enough to get the lay of the land since I wanted to compare prices. We spent £21.06 on cashews, various types sliced ham, a sirloin steak, 3x blackberries, herbed soft cheese, olives, YS fresh ham hock, and a container of Brussels pâté for only 45p! I made sure to choose items that are regular items for me in Waitrose & M & S in order to really compare. The ham hock and steak went directly into the freezer for later days. So far so good on the berries, cashews, and pâté. One of the packets of ham slices tastes really weird like machine oil but the higher quality one tastes much betters I’ll get that next time.On the way back on Saturday I stopped in M & S and spent £16.04 on 3 for £10 breaded fish for the OH, oatcakes, a variety box of crackers for cheese (pâté!), YS chicken saag and YS mash.Sunday’s Waitrose C & C came to £70.15 and included lots of yoghurt, cheeses, fruit, laundry stuff, canned beans, bulgur, and other pantry staples. They also gave us a pack of frozen Aunt Bessie’s chips as a promo. Decided I’d take it and see what all the fuss is about.
£120.12 spent
£260.47 / £300 remaining
Our fridge is full and I think we have enough fruit to last us until Friday. I’ve deliberately made our next Waitrose C & C for early April to force ourselves to eat down supplies and buy from cheaper sources such as the cheap fruit & veg box and Lidl for fridge staples like cheese, smoked salmon, nuts, and ham. Let’s see how the week goes. I’ll visit the bigger Lidl this weekend. This month was meant to be an experiment to see what it’s like purchasing as a couple again. There are definitely some things to be learned. I have a feeling we’ll come out of the month spending about £350 but with better shopping, can reduce it in April.
