A quick update for the month so far.
A few small shops at the local co-op and veg shop as well as weekly at Lidl. Lidl shop was lowest yet at £65.82. OH has stopped drinking beer for a bit and we're both trying to be conscious of what we eat - really noticing the impact on the budget :-).
Currently at £276.63/£561 - with £284.37 to last us, still 23 days to go however total includes a big meat order so should balance out by the end of the month.

Hi gang. OH and I have had a few spends the past couple days. £48.75 for the Waitrose order yesterday that refilled things like cereal, meat, and yoghurt supplies amongst other things. This morning I spent £1.50 for recycling bags and £6.50 on ham and apples. Mr. Jings is really mainlining the ham. 🙄 I’m determined not to buy more fruit until Friday. In the Waitrose order we got bananas and a pineapple I’ll chop up tomorrow. Along with the apples we can survive... I hope.
£56.75 spent
£140.35 / £300 remaining
I’m going to try reigning in the shopping between now and Friday. In Sunday’s order I got ground turkey thigh meat and some chicken thighs. My intention there is to make kale and feta turkey burgers along with chicken shawarma with the thighs. I’ll debone the thighs, add the bones to the freezer for stock and fry the chicken skin as a tasty snack.
I’d also roast a big pan of peppers, red onions and sweet potatoes to eat with both meat dishes for the week. That should keep me out of the grocery stores for a bit. We’re thinking of topping up the fruit and veg again with a £15 box from the organic store later this weekend.

@Save_Dosh I use distilled clear vinegar periodically in an empty machine on a hot wash to clean it - removes soap scum, and keeps the machine smelling fresh.
White vinegar is also great with white towels that have gone hard (usually due to a build-up of detergent in the terry pile) - a hot wash with no detergent and a cup of distilled clear vinegar, then shake them well while still damp gives them a new lease of life. I also use it to de-fur my kettle and clean windows and windscreensSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £1286.68/£3000 or 42.89% of my annual spend so far
I also Reverse Meal Plan on that thread and grow much of our own premium price fruit and veg, joining in on the Grow your own thread

I had 3 spends yesterday, £20 at the wholesale past best before warehouse (mostly sweet treats and some squash), £35.05 in Ald! (milk, yogurts, cheese, some fruit, juice, fizzy, bin bags, fabric softener, pesto, noddles, coffee sachets, some noddle pots, cup pasta) and £7 for my afforable grocery collection (loads of sausages this week, as well as double cream, a huge squirty cream, chocolate milkshakes, fruit & veg, potatoes, eggs, box of cereal, rice, few snacks for the kids).
We also sorted our tins storage yesterday, got about 15 tins of soup so will be using some of that up over the next few weeks.
Does anyone have any unusual ways with sausages, other than with mash, chips, toad in the hole, in pasta dshes or for a cooked breakfast or in a sandwich?Grocery Challenge 2024

I used to make a "cowboy" pie with sausages when the kids were little. Just sausages, bacon (if you've got any), some onion & baked beans and then into a pie dish and top with pastry. If you want it to go further then using a top and bottom crust makes it a bit more filling. We always had it served with mash.

This weeks shop done at Moggies of £36.65. I’m trying to cut down on alcohol so none on this shop, but did include some meat and fish for the dog , which was reduced ( most of pet spends I don’t count in grocery budget).
I like Morrison’s as we get the NHS discount, a lot of my veg and fruit I get YS, as well as being able to buy GF on the same shop.Shouldn’t need anything else till next week if I stick to the meal plan 🙂.7
