Thanks all. The HT has had a new gaming headset and £50 off me for his efforts and my best friend has bought him an extra monitor for his gaming rig so he's very pleased with himself.
We're off out charity shop shopping today and I've said that I'll pay for lunch. We haven't had a holiday for years so I don't mind not overpaying my debts as much as usual this month. I'm also happy that I have the cash available to pay for a couple of meals not cooked by me instead of having to use credit. I'll be back to paying as much as I can from September once the HT is in college.1 -
Congratulations to HT xSeptember 2017 Debt = £25330

Congrats to HT! My husband is a teacher so I can appreciate how difficult it's been for the kids the last 18 months despite not having any of my own. Sounds like some lovely presents and lunch treats out 😊Current mortgage (1 Jun 2022): £289,501 - originally £351,999 got to love London sized mortgages!

Thanks everyone. I think it's starting to sink in today that he's done with maths. He has dyscalculia and until his final year in high school had no extra help. In his final year a new teacher started and she has been kind and patient. She has taken the time to explain the things that he does understand in more depth so he had a solid foundation in those and we all agreed that he should skip the things that he struggled with on the final exam (anything time related and word problems) and concentrate on the things that he could do (algebra for example of all things). He was also entered for foundation level maths which means that his grade 4 is a pass rather than higher tier which would have fitted in with the rest of his abilities and grades but would have seen him fail at grade 4.
This past week including the celebrations yesterday and today have cost a fortune but his results in the face of so much adversity are worth it I think. I'm as proud of his low maths grade as I am for his high grades in other subjects and his dad would have been absolutely thrilled by them too if he'd been alive - something that I've made sure to mention to the HT.
Right, we're back on the paying off/saving/ being sensible with money bandwagon now. My boss has offered me a couple of extra hours in September. They won't cover what has been spent this week but every little helps. I also have the contents of our spare room to ebay over the winter when the weather is bad.1 -
NSD today - the celebrations are well and truly over. There were four of us for lunch today and two for dinner. All food came from the fridge, freezer and kitchen cupboard. There is £26 in the pot on the shelf and £183.96 left of the grocery budget (to last for the next 3 weeks food shopping for however many people show up for meals and the cat). I'll do a freezer inventory tomorrow morning and see if I can use enough frozen things to be able to keep some of the food budget for next month.
I picked a pound and a half of blackberries this morning while I was out walking with my looked after person. I'm fairly sure I will be able to pick the same again in the week sometime as there were a lot that were nearly ripe. Free food is good 😁2 -
I've been out picking too. My DD loves them and it saves me a ton in fruit money every few days when they are in season xSeptember 2017 Debt = £25330

I used to love blackberry picking ☺️ Will they be put in the freezer or made into jam?Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien

Morning all, I have started on my jobs for the day already. Freezer inventory done, yay. At least when the HT says he doesn't know what he wants to eat I can hand him the updated list now. I've made my shopping list for Tuesday too - a lot of it is repeat items like snacks and ice cream cones for my looked after person and some fruit, cat food and bread.
NSD today - I've told the HT that we're staying in and tidying up. Well one of us will be tidying up and doing the ironing, the other will be gaming.1 -
Well done to your son. Definitely right to relax the budget a little for him. Those moments don't come round too often.
