  • I've become concerned about supermarket deliveries since the latest driver (Tesco) wore no mask, stood fairly close to my front door and talked the whole time about how Covid is a conspiracy, it's just a new name for the common cold and we should all go back to living as we did before the pandemic struck because "These things happen all the time and humanity hasn't died out yet, so why the fuss?" He carried on in that vein for the whole time I was moving things from his boxes to the bags in my hall, then stood there for another 5 minutes banging on like a doorstep evangelist before finally leaving. Warning bells - does this mean that Tesco employs vaccine refusers who will presumably be able to mix with the public (I'm elderly & vulnerable with underlying health issues)? Do the big supermarkets check up on employees who remain unvaccinated (for whatever reason)? Worrying.
I don’t think it’s a conspiracy but I do think it’s a load of nonsense. The employee of tesco is entitled to his opinion but perhaps not the right time/place for them to air it.

sorry that you feel worried about it but I certainly don’t and wouldn’t be offended by it but rather just enjoy the fact that In this day and age we’ve now got the luxury to have our daily/weekly/monthly shopping picked, packed, put on a truck and delivered right to our front door by a handful of people....something that just didn’t exist 20 years ago.
If you believe you can, you will. If you believe you can't, you won't.

    Secured/Unsecured loans x 1
    Credit Cards x 8 (total limit £55,050)
Creation FS Retail Account x 1
    Creation Credit Sale 0% x 1 = £112.50pm x 20 mths
    0% Overdraft x 1 (£0 / £250)
    Mortgage Outstanding - £137,707.00 (Payment 13/360)
    Total Debt = £7,400 (0%APR) @ £100pm - Stoozing

  • When I had my jabs I was given a record card and asked to keep it in my wallet. I assumed that everyone gets one at the time of their jab(s). Presumably employers can ask workers who mix with the general public to show their cards? Or would this constitute a gross abuse of their right to be part of the problem rather than part of the answer to it?

Not everybody gets a card and yes, it would be an abuse of their rights.

And then what? They don’t have a card, or they decline to show it? There is no further action the employer can take, as proving you’ve had a vaccine is not a requirement to work in a supermarket.

Its not a requirement to work in the NHS either, so perhaps you need to avoid doctors and hospitals as well?
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

If you’re uncomfortable with the thought of being near an unvaccinated delivery driver when getting a delivery it’s really up to you to adjust to that.

I totally agree.   The worried person always has the option of buying a proper FFP3 mask which stops 99% of all germs, viruses getting to you.  Seems a simple and obvious solution to me for anyone still worried about whether others will infect them.

Did you politely ask him to move away from your door? You could have asked him to be quiet, just a simple "sorry I'm trying to concentrate on unpacking would you mind stopping talking please".

Most employers don't check if staff are vaccinated (although Ikea now won.t pay sick pay to unvaxxed).
If he is outside and keeping a good distance there is no requirement for a mask, but if you would be more comfortable then again you could politely ask them to wear a mask.
Or if you are really concerned then get some proper FFP2/3 masks for yourself.

Just think before anyone was vaccinated, the delivery people were still delivering, interesting.

Indeed.  And we all came into work offices coughing and spluttering with colds and Flu etc and thought nothing of it.   The culture was that you just soldiered on and if you didn't you were a wuss with "man flu" etc.  How times change !

Anyway the great news now is that mask mandates are disappearing day after tomorrow, Thursday.

"from 27 January, there is no longer a legal requirement to wear a face covering."

It's now up to overly concerned individuals to protect themselves by buying and wearing proper FFP3 masks if they want to.
