Rescuemycar Car Breakdown Discussion

  • I’ve just applied for a quote for my van breakdown insurance, initially it looked very attractive, I read all 22 pages of T&C’s ( there’s more of what is not covered than what is covered) It seems that cancellation and amendment costs exceed the premium, they want me to pay first, then they want further details. I called their helpline and an automated message informed me that a £4+ charge would be added to the premium!
I just wanted them to clarify what further details they required
It’s probably photos of the vehicle, driving license and service records. If I think it’s too onerous it’s too late and I’ll loose my premium in “ cancellation fees”
I suspect they’re offering competitive premiums hoping to be able to demand more credit card payments before they’ll attend in the event of a breakdown
  • Well I ignored all of the negative reviews and took out a policy yesterday because it was so cheap and they offered a 20% discount via MSE .  When checking the documents received today I find they haven't honoured the MSE discount code. Not a good start!

  • It took quite a while to get through to rescuemycar but in fairness to them they did apply the MSE discount on my card but sent out documentation showing the full price. Unhelpful but not dodgy.
  • Sooo...More than one person complaining they were only offered recovery to a local garage within 10 miles, when they were clearly signed up to..... ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE WITH LOCAL RECOVERY as clearly shown in the application documents and T&C's. (Which is still 10 miles more than AA/RAC do - or did last time I wasted my money on them!) If you want Nationwide recovery, then sign up for it. Don't be a cheapskate and then complain you didn't get sumet you hadn't paid for. (Same applies to the optional £40 excess). I can't comment on their actual service as I've never needed to use it - but I can add that I've been left waiting for many hours, and otherwise messed around seriously by the RAC, in a worse way than the tales of woe on here.

Indeed. I have posted previously about my Wife suffering 2 unrepairable punctures late at night and asked for recovery home, obv's only one spare. The Patrol even had the cheek to suggest that a personal taxi would be quicker and arrange tyres the following day !
She was persuaded to call out a 24 hour tyre company who charged her over £100 for two part worn tyres.

Dreadful company. No help at all when we had problems only 30 miles from home. Would not even look at an electrical problem and told me I had to find a garage in an area we were not familiar with and they would then tow the car a max. of 10 miles. Avoid these people and do not waste your money. When you need help they are NOT what you need.
  • Got stranded by Rescue My car following a puncture. Spare tyre turned out to have a slowly leaking valve...not obvious till out the boot. Under terms of their policy Rescue My Car refused to come out. Always check the small print before signing up!

I now pay a bit more for the reassurance I'm properly covered.
  • I have used them for just over a year following this site recommending them.  All fine until I had to change my address.  Its impossible to call them - I've tried 4 times and been on hold over 30 minutes each time before hanging up.  I emailed them instead but then got a voicemail to call them about the email so back to square one. They have now sent an email to say they are now cancelling my policy in a few days as I haven't got back to them - as it has not been possible. I have raised a complaint as they are useless and I'm certainly not going to recommend them to anyone else.
  • Sign up easy and over £150 cheaper than my "decade of loyalty" with only one call out, on RAC.
For this year I'm taking it, even though my car is older, as I will have long periods where I am not driving. So I went for £15 a year with home start, roadside tow, and no excess. Seemed worth it!
if I go on longer journeys in the following 12 months I'll move back to a more reliable service.
