I'd also challenge whether or not it's actually against the terms and conditions.

The use of any automated entry software [it's not automated entry software] or any other mechanical or electronic means [fair enough, it probably would fall under this] that permits any person to enter any Competition repeatedly [that's not what the comma does] or make multiple simultaneous entries [also not what the comma does] is prohibited.

They make the winning call 5 minutes or so after the lines close, and they often say the money is in the winner's bank account within the hour.

It's very unlikely that they would discover that all/many of the winner's calls used the comma delay method in such a short space of time.

They could of course ask for the money back later (good luck with that!), but imagine the bad publicity that would bring them. It would certainly put off a lot of people from entering in future, including the ones they really want, the people who pay for their entries.

Unless I read otherwise in their T&Cs, I will continue to enter using the comma delay method, but make the occasional call where I press "1" myself too.

Knowing what we know now….why would you risk the comma method? Just manually enter.

If you’ve done 100 calls immediately after each other, all lasting say 42 seconds exactly. You can see how some software might flag that as suspicious.

We all have our own systems but the way I make the calls is to have my phone on my desk as I do other things on my computer.

All I have to do is tap "Call" every 45 seconds or so as the phone returns to that display immediately after each call. I can do it almost subconsciously & without barely looking at my phone as I do other things.

Having to press "1" manually would meaning having to tap "numbers" on my phone first, and then at the right time, press "1".

It might not sound like a big difference but when you are working on something else and have to do this 100 times (400 at the end of this month's competition), it is a lot more hassle.

    I don’t disagree.

I just worry that you’ll be entering 400 times and they’ll all get voided. Unlikely, admittedly. But at least if you do 1 manual entry, you’re in the draw. Rather than 400 void entries.

That's right. But we were talking about the Friday 27th February draw. In that one 400 phone entries can be made.

Go to https://makemeawinner.co.uk/campaign/MAKEMEAWINNER500K and click on T&Cs.

Yep - or I just wait until the call timer is somewhere between 40" and 55"

I press 1 as soon as I hear "please press", sometimes pressing it the moment the automated message goes "pl-", and then wait for confirmation before hanging up (which the time between has increased by 1-2 seconds). Surely me doing that is not against the T&C's just because they all end up roughly at 42 or 43 seconds?

If my entries get struck off because I don't wait for the message to complete the phrasing after saying "please press 1" then they can clearly stop that being possible, and make it only possible to press 1 after the beep.

Additionally, it shouldn't matter if people do the free entry calls in sets of 10, 50, or the whole 100 in a row.

How can they even tell you've used the comma method? What if you're just precise at clicking at a certain time, every time (or nearly every time)? Why should - or would - that flag anything?

Seems pedantic and ridiculous, and a way to strike off free entries because they don't like having to offer them.
