Hi everyone.....Not had time to look up the Feng Shuey stuff yet, have been busy deep cleanjng my kitchen. Will try and have a look at the weekend. I knew about the front and back door alignment and also things like where the loo is sited, all things I took into account when I bought this house. It's a chalet type bungalow, hopefully somewhere I can "age in situ", unless I decide to downsize once more. That will depend on the finances. One of the things which really sold me about this property is it's east /west orientation, so lots of light and a nice sunny garden, perfect for sitting out on warm summer evenings because the paved areas and brick walls retain the heat.Just a quick question......really interested about keeping gold coins by the front door. Anythjng to improve my wealth. 😂. Would £1 coins suffice or do they have to be real gold coins such as sovereigns.Have booked a slot for the recycling centre next Wednesday. Just knowing that I will be getting rid of a load of stuff has given me a psychological boost already.Love the idea of a wish box. I'm definitely going to copy that idea. Thanks for that.I have been reading a lot of personal development type books during the pandemic and many of them say to "ask the universe", that if we send out love and positive vibes the universe will answer in kind. I am a great believer in the power of thought, using our thoughts to reprogramme our brains so as to unleash creativity, power and energy. As I say I have used the enforced lockdowns to really dig deep into my inner world. In many ways it has been a very positive experience. I now feel ready to leave the widow behind and embrace my new solo life. I am looking forward with hope, anticipation and excitement.Ps just put a dish of £1 and£2 coins by the door. 🤞😂🤣8

Well last night I couldn't sleep. My mind just kept whirring, thinking of all the "stuff" in my house, how was I going to tackle it. Felt really overwhelmed. So this morning I have dived in and made a start. I have emptied the loft of everything except Christmas decorations and some items belonging to my son.The rest I have piled into a spare bedroom, neatly boxed and stacked. I have earmarked some some stuff that can go straight to the tip on Wednesday and will bring that downstairs ready to load the car tomorrow. The remainder will either be sold or donated but I can go through each box at my leisure once the pandemic restrictions are lifted.Hopefully I will sleep better tonight now that I've made a start and I can see some progress. 🤞7

So after I spent hours sorting out my late Nan's bungalow single handed (long story) and looking to start the process of moving out of my Mum's house, I'm definitely wanting to declutter not only my room but the house too.
In fairness to Nan she'd really decluttered herself and had a skip a year ago, so it was nowhere near as bad as it could have been.
Mega lot of Nan's stuff still awaiting collection from the charity I volunteer with (they are still collecting!) but I've managed to stuff it into small shed bar two small boxes in porch.
Once that's gone I need to get to the back of big shed (gulp) to retrieve some collectables I want to sell via an auction house. At the same time I will declutter (loads will have to come out before I can get to said collectables) but it was all turned out and sorted two years ago so not expecting to get rid of much. I am also storing a lot of items for charity work in there, hopefully one day they will be needed for events again!
Housewise I have a huge rug and 3 vacuums to give away - a lightweight 2 in 1 was recently purchased and can replace all our current ones.
I'm advertising one by one on a very local Facebook group that way I don't open it up to all and sundry against the spirit of lockdown.
Two boardgames went today collected by someone out for their exercise after I turned out the hall closet.
Went through some cleaning supplies and storage trolley, some went into the bin and loaded up a bag for local charity who take food bags, egg boxes etc, everything really. I drop those off in their collection trolley at local Asda.
Once Mum can get a laptop (budget models v. scarce at the moment) we will be giving away the PC + bag of spares, then PC trolley and ironing board will be going as scrap metal.
Decluttering with no car and in lockdown is a challenge but it can be done.
I also find decluttering an area once then again a little while later useful, just to see if anything else can possibly go.2 -
Aww thanks!
I'm used to not having a car and as such finding ways to manage without.
Sometimes that is easy and sometimes it is hard but it can be done.
I realised I need to go through gardening stuff too. Sadly I just don't have the health to do as much as I did, and hanging baskets can definitely go to a new home. Some are doubles too so really nice.
I've battled fierce direct sun for years, using many methods, before concluding last year baskets are just not viable here. The plan was to fill containers instead and move them in & out of the sun. Unfortunately due to Covid I was unable to go anywhere to buy plants, had too many disappointments by post.
Trying again this spring!3 -
Hi BarbCh. Thank you so much for sharing the poem it is very inspirational. I have battled my demons for most of my adult life so yes I guess I am a warrior. I have always felt insecure and under attack so I have surrounded myself with things acting as a security blanket. I find it very hard to let go of things so I will follow this thread with interest

A few days ago, I posted these pics on a similar thread to this one.... to me it illustrates how clutter can overwhelm us.... even when that clutter is something that we want! Such as all the books in the first picture.
Clutter is not necessarily rubbish! It is often having too much stuff and not enough space!
Hence the second pic.... 'I have too much stuff'
When something over runs the space, and prevents you from moving around easily or finding something readily, then it becomes cluttered! Hence referring to things as being clutter... NOT RUBBISH.... that is a whole different matter.
The last picture, for me, illustrates the feeling that we get when we feel overwhelmed and unable to deal with the process of sorting things out. The white elephants on the shelf, say to me that we keep things unnecessarily... as does the stack of newspapers!
These pictures actually offended someone on the other thread, as they questioned why I posted them as they did not relate to anyone else on there!
I mention this because that one comment, from one person... set me off on an emotional downer as I wondered what I had done to invite this reaction! So I deleted all of my posts from the thread!
So here, a few days later, and considering what had occurred I realise that the comment said everything about that person.... and not me..... but I picked up the negativity and reacted!!!
It made me realise that this is something that I do when faced with negativity.... I, like many others have felt under attack, feeling insecure (as mentioned in post by @ruthber )
SO in my case I 'decluttered' the thread of my posts!
Anyone who takes the time to share their stories and feelings on this thread, and forum, should be applauded for entering into the conversation and helping others, as well as themselves, to overcome issues and declutter not only their environment but their mindset.
Thank you everyone who is contributing to this thread6
