NHS booking site is open for anyone registered at a GP surgery in England and aged over 70 to now book their appointment. Anyone else in England can only book if they have a letter.
it is quite possible that people over 70 are booking without letters and this is legitimate.if you don’t want to book yourself, possibly because the mass vaccine sites are not near you any there are no local pharmacy appointments available, you can wait for your GP to book you in at a surgery (may not be your own) or a GP appointment clinic near you.

The OP hasn't said if this person is over 70 or not.
    Just that they are CEV.
I thought CEV - regardless of age - were included in group 4.
All those 70 years of age and over and clinically extremely vulnerable individuals (not including pregnant women and those under 16 years of age)
    (from GOV.UK)
Do you mean that CEV people can't book without a letter?

My understanding is that CEV are booked in by their GP surgery for a vaccination appointment either at their surgery or at a hub that is vaccinating on behalf of a group of surgeries.
The option to book yourself into a mass vaccination centre or pharmacy directly, requires you to either be eligible by date of birth or in some instances was available by codes or booking links that were sent to the eligible. I don’t know if this last route was stopped due to the publication of links that meant non eligible people were able to use the links to book.

    Thanks, that makes sense.
I think this thread is just a 'some bloke down t'pub told me ...' type of misunderstanding.

I would not worry about what you read on neighbourhood social media sites.

Exactly. Although I might substitute 'worry about' with 'believe'.

We've had loads of teachers near me in Sittingbourne abusing a link shared over Facebook and WhatsApp to book appointments . The link was , quite rightly , solely for teachers who worked with vulnerable children with complex health issues.

They are all trying to now justify their actions despite it being all over the news that teachers , on the whole , have not been given priority over everybody else .

As youngest won't receive his letter as it will go to his uni address and he is currently at home, he was advised by his local hub, 119 and our MP to book via the online system. His letter has been produced, just that he won't get to see it until he actually returns to uni and picks up his post.

He is a group 4 CEV and had been contacted last week by his local hub to book him in for his jab, which had he been in his uni city, would have happened Saturday just gone.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.
  • Just returned to the thread and just to clafify. The person  in question was 52 and was on the extremely vulnerable list. We ended up having quite a conversation.
My son is also on the list but is waiting for his call from the surgery. They are very explicit about the fact that you must NOT call them and must wait.

So according to Silvercar's understanding, he couldn't book himself:

I'm confused whether he booked or didn't book:
Just been on a local neighbourhood forum. One man on there has booked a vaccination  and got a date for his second one by using the NHS booking site. Now this person is in the extremely clinically vulnerable group but has not had a letter inviting him to book.

Thank you both. Ive not looked as he obviously didnt try to book having seen the instruction and Im in the next group after the current one.

You can book as soon as the system says a letter has been sent, it might take a week to get to you!

It seems that although the link was meant to be for a specific group of teachers NHS management managed to foul up and open it up to "teachers" with no qualifying criteria.  Apparently it was also incorrectly opened up to all 999 workers as well and not just front line staff. Can't blame them for applying if they fit the criteria (wrongly) specified.

    To clarify the above.
The first comment relates to the person who has booked on the site without having been sent the required letter.
The second comment was in realtion to my son who is in the same group but has not tried to book as has also not had the letter yet.
