You'd have thought they could have at least put us on their current lowest tariff (ie one in my previous post).
They are not allowed to put you on a tariff with exit charges, but once you are with them you can ask to be moved to your preferred tariff...

No exit charge on that tariff as it happens so therefore no reason not to be put on it.

I think EDF have played a bit of a blinder by putting ex GNE onto a cheaper tariff than what they were on (albeit it might be a few pennies) as it will cut down the churn and hopefully retain them a lot of those customers.  Surely if you're an SOLR it makes sense to retain your new customers for a period to cover some of the costs and admin that must be incurred by the SOLR process. (obviously if the failed supplier rates were ludicrously low then it might not be economic to do so but Simplicity's weren't that low)

I agree that the lower prices will help stop the churn. However, apart from the customers on price cap tariffs, the company wouldn't really be making any margin to cover costs etc. Due to the competitiveness of the market, most tariffs that seem 'not that low' are still pretty much at cost, leaving very little gross profit to cover admin expenses etc.

While this is still the case though, customers need to take advantage of the cheap prices and let the external investors cover the losses for as long as possible.

The main hope though is that the customers don't do a comparison and leave early because they know they'll be on a cheaper tariff anyway. Then once their end date for the previous GNE fixed contract is met, they can just move them onto the SVT and hope they don't notice/leave.

Just seen this on MSE news section....doesn't sound great news from what I've just looked out in Switch with Which for BG Standard Variable.  You'd have thought they could have at least put us on their current lowest tariff (ie one in my previous post).  Those lucky blighters with GNE have been promised by EON that their SOLR tariff will be lower than what they were on with GNE until end Sep...shame we couldn't have been given to EON as well.
I think that you mean EDF?

    Good point :)
    That was good, but unexpected.
I'm a little surprised that they selected BGE as a SoLR given they are an online only supplier.
Easy enough to change the tariff, and like you there was only one other tariff available when I looked.

    I did indeed...corrected now.
  • Hi, I have only just joined simplicity 2 days ago and have now been informed that they are switching me to british gas evolve. I've contacted bg evolve but they can't give me a tariff price. Does anyone know if the tariff will be as cheap or more expensive than simplicity? I was on 2.494p per kWh gas 14.897p per kWh electric

See one of my posts above...according to MSE news blog we are going to be put on a tariff that is similar to BG Standard Variable (although I don't think any of us have had our welcome emails with the personalised new tariff yet). Pretty certain to be a lot more expensive that the tariff you were on I'm afraid (likely to be 16p+ for Elec and 3p+ for Gas if what MSE have said is true)

Hi, I'm confused because a couple of posts prior to yours Malchester wrote at 4 February at 6:46PM: "My tariff for BG Evolve is Online Fixed v1 with 12mth fix and no exit fees Elec is 17.34p/day standing charge and 16.58p/kwh Gas is 14.65p/day standing charge and 2.66p/kwh"

So maybe it depends on what type of tariff you were previously on? I was on a fixed with Simplicity.

I understood it that Malchester had voluntarily switched to BGE a little while ago (not an SOLR transferee like us) and was merely pointing out his current tariff to show that his was OK ish and that he had been satisfied with BGE customer service.   Don't think you can read any of that across to us refugees.   I believe the v1 tariff is no longer available and as I have said previously the only one I can get when doing a quote is one called Direct Online v4 .  It was the bit in the MSE news article that was where I got the info that the new tariff we would be put on would be called Simplicity Promise and would be roughly the same as BG standard variable.  If you go onto an energy comparison site eg Switch with Which and put in BG Standard as your current supplier you should be able to find out what the BG Standard tariff would be for your region.

"We’re still chasing for exact details and the rate card, but British Gas Evolve has told us that you’ll be placed on a tariff called ‘Simplicity Promise’, which will cost on average £1,041/yr on typical dual-fuel use – the same price as British Gas’s standard tariff and just £1 under the current energy price cap."
