Oh, Mothernerd. I love your stories. I remember my grandmother making buttonholes for weddings with flowers from her garden. Carnations for the gentlemen, roses for the ladies. A little bit of greenery and the stalks wrapped in silver paper. They were lovely.
My mother did all her own decorating and my grandmother was never seen without her knitting needles or crochet hook. She taught me to knit but I haven't done it for years. I used to sew as well.

Very inspirational Mothernerd. Just reading your last post has given me an excited feeling inside that I could learn some of these things too. Growing up we never had much money & made lots of things from scratch. My three boys have been brought up the same way. Trying to save this year to build an extension, hubby is wanting to build it, but is daunted by all the things he needs to find out about beforehand. I'm happy to do labouring when I'm not at work, so between us it will save costs & mean more because we built it!Use it up, wear it out
Make do or do without!
If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours 😃

I was a bit naughty today and ordered some things for the bathroom. Would have needed replacing very shortly but I’ve done it now anyway.
The Boy took me to a community centre for my COVID jab today. In and out in less than ten minutes and didn’t feel a thing. Very well organised and efficient. Well done to everyone concerned.
Still searching to see if I have any more undiscovered talents, Mothernerd. I’m sure I must have at least another one.Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.9 -
I think a lot of women are raised not to blow their own trumpet. You know, don't draw attention to yourself. At least it was in my house - whether that was a Northern Irish thing or not I don't know (cos I wasn't raised by anyone else)
You can probably tell it did not work. What is the point of having a trumpet if not to blow it ? Toot Toot!
What I can do is dig a trench, saw in a straight line, bake a decent cake, hang wallpaper, and walk really quietly up behind my kids and scare the bejesus out of them. I also make a great cup of tea. With g00gle, I am teaching myself how to fix stuff and repurpose things. I mean if it is broken already, why worry if you take it apart and can't fix it. It is broken already, it can't get any more brokener. The broken bits I am learning to solder with.So this week I have a new (new to me) tv for the cost of a powerboard (sub £15) and am trying to fix another tv for a friend.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

Today was a better day, no teams meltdown but it was also a training day so I didn't have to do much. I hd to take number three cat to the vet as he's been scratching himself raw and we do flea him regularly, the vet reckons its a skin infection caused by some other allergy, so he's had a steroid jab and I've paid up £57 which isn't as much as I'd expected. All of our cats are strays that somehow find their way to us so almost impossible to insure as we have no idea of age, for several years now we've run a vets fund putting £60 a month to one side (£20 per moggie, far less than insurance costs) as so far we've always stayed ahead even when we've had some quite big bills.
Foxholes I hadn't though of it from the idea of posh veg boxes also having instructions, I'm just always aware how difficult it must be for people to have to contact the school for help and to have their child's teacher deliver a food parcel. It makes me so angry that people are forced into that position.
Hopefully by next week they'll have run out of red peppers and courgettes (we've had them several times lately) but I'm sure we'll get something else then.
Today I'm grateful for the coming half term with no teams online teaching, having the funds to look after our furry friends and the connections we've made with the community as a school that allow us to help families.Mortgage Free 23 December 2020

You are all so clever. Honestly, I’m in awe of what you manage to do. You remind me of my neighbour. She said to me once (whilst she was wiring a ceiling light for me!) that she had been left on her own with three pre-school children, didn’t have much money so she just had to learn how to do things. What is it they say about necessity? But you’re right, we all have our own strengths and talents. We just don’t always recognise them for what they are.Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.6

Attended a virtual meeting this morning for my self employment role and done some of the follow up work this afternoon.
mothernerd and f0xh0les - i'm in awe of your practical skills! I'm impressed that i can bleed my own radiators !
Having a video chat with friends this evening and then watching It's a Sin, think there'll be tears
Gratitudes - being able to WfH in all my 3 jobs; getting washing dried on the line; good TV this evening

@Deni_debt-free_dreamer it's a sin is really powerful isn't it, I was born in 86 so didn't learn about how appallingly people were treated.
No NSD here, had to pop to the shops for milk and spinach (for lasagne - and the rabbits of course). Also picked up another book from the library. Posted my books on ebay. One buyer bought two from me but ebay charged her for two lots of postage - at £4.68 EACH - so I refunded one as I just thought that was absurd. Selling the books was more about getting rid than making loads of money.
I also must admit a boo boo today. I bought £180 worth of clothes and shoes, I convinced myself it's for my court work as I need to look smart. I put it on my Very account and there's every chance I may send some back but I must confess my sins! Although it's been about a year since I bought any clothes. I think it's probably partly to do with wearing the same tracksuits etc day in day out apart from when I go to court and just feeling a bit bleurgh.7
