I still didnt get to do half the stuff. Ive just had lunch and a big slice of HM carrot cake, just try and calm down and get my nerves back on track before tackling DD xmas fair at school
Right, now to update my Xmas card list!

Hello all,
Have an unexpected day off - the car wouldn't start this morning so I rang the agency and said I'ld be 10-15 minutes late - they rang me back 5 minutes later and said they had covered my shift  :mad:. 10 minutes was all I was going to be!!!!!!!
So, not sure what plans are today - we got the tree sorted yesterday and put the decorations on it, as well as decorating the rest of the living room (had to rearrange the furniture). Still got to tidy the rest of the house.
Have to go to the PO for OH, as well as make my meal plan and maybe do some grocery shopping.
Dinner is Spanish Omelette. have a good one
Aussie - Judging by the contents of 'that' hamper, I would bet on that drink not being wine at allWe must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment0 -

I put it in the oven at about 180 for a couple of hours. I also put some vinegar on it which is supposed to bring out the flavour.
Thanks for this. I have a huge Topside/Rump to cook tomorrow for Sunday. I am going to cook in the SC on low all day...do you think that would be ok? It was reduced to £5 last week.

Hi
I usually cook beef for about 5 hours on low, but that is quite a small piece as there is only two of us.
Only put a small amount of water in the bottom, and take it out to stand for about 1/2 an hour before you want to carve. Try to find a really sharp knife as it will be so tender it will just disintegrate.
There might be more advice on the slow cooker collection in the indexed thread
Hope this helps xYou're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -

Thanks! I wasnt going to carve as it needs to travel about an hour on Sunday and my sister has an excellent meat slicer. Do you think this would be ok? Maybe the SC will cook too much?
I am hoping for a meat/bread slicer for Xmas:D
OH just making a nice cup of Earl Grey;) All washing has been dried outside. DW has been emptied and the house in pretty good order.
I have no idea what to wear tonight. Im thinking black flared trousers and striped black and white stretchy shirt with my boots.
Forgot to mention that we have had 4 eggs today and have had 13 eggs in the past week alone, so averaging at around 2-3 a day:j :j :j :j

Taplady - sorry to hear of DS1's accident. What a blow! Just when you think things are sorted out the stuffing gets knocked out of you again. Still he's here and he's safe.
My DS1 is a new driver and wants to go on the motorway so DH and I are having a drive out with him tomorrow. We've got to drive quite some distance so he's going to follow our car to give him some practice and learn his way around. Even now I'm anxious. Still rather he learnt that way.AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £68.12/ £250

Hi again
((hugs)) taplady - been there done that, still have heart in mouth when ds does long journeys and he's 22 now (and a damn good driver).
I always cook my joints in the SC. I just put them in on high dry. You are supposed to seal the edges first, but normally just throw it in. Don't leave it too long though 3-4 hours max. Very tender, and then I make the gravy with the juices which comeout while cooking.
Absolutely exhausted - you cannot believe how much junk we have. Boxed some up to go through later. Nearly a box full of single bedding, and will not have a single bed now! So much junk to go through, but the task today was to empty all the cupboards, and that has been achieved. Pen-Pen will testify that Freecycle is busy for me.
Had my coffee now, so better carry on. Friends due round 6.30 - 7. Going to eat out, cannot face preparing any food.

Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
Well I went to Safeway and it was manic!!! You couldn't even get down the wines aisle, it was completely full. Why do people go so mad at this time of year - I know you have to buy extra because you entertaining/special treats etc but the shops are only closed for one day!!!!! Still, managed to get 2 bunches of nanas for 30p, so they will ripen up a bit and be made into nana cake. Also got fuel - OH MY GOD!!!!!! I figured out that OH and I need to earn £300 a month just to pay for fuel. It really makes me want to give the Government a good punch in the face.
Sorry, but it really makes me sick the state of this country, where the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer.
Think I will do my menu plan now and sit down and work on a budget - I think it will help OH be less panicky about it all.We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret and disappointment0
