Best place to buy tyres.

I always get my tyres from my local Kwik Fit. Never more than a few pounds in it, if any.Mortgage free
Vocational freedom has arrived0 -
The saga continues.
I made the original payment with PayPal, a mistake in hindsight. I normally use a credit card.
With no notice or communication from Tyres on the Drive, my PayPal account has today, Sunday, been debited with a further £70.
TOTD have never told me any extra payment would be applied.
I raised a dispute with PayPal saying that I had not authorised this payment.
Within two hours, on a Sunday when TOTD offices are closed, they responded with:We've completed our review of your unauthorised activity case, and we’ve determined there was no unauthorised use.I have asked PayPal to explain how they completed a review so quickly.
I have also contacted TOTD to ask for an explanation.
I will hold off until they respond.
A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".0 -
At a guess... they quoted you for the cheaper non-RFTs, then when you insisted on the RFTs, they've charged you the extra for them...
£70/4 tyres is £17.50/tyre, which is about the right price difference.0 -
This involves two tyres only, not four.
I ordered RFTs. If they have got the price wrong that is down to them. The RFTs are widely available at around the same price as TOTD's original price.
They have no right to arbitrarily charge £70 without any prior notice or communication whatsoever.
I would have cancelled the order if I had known the price would be £70 higher.A man walked into a car showroom.

I would have cancelled the order if I had known the price would be £70 higher.Perhaps?? you made an error on your original order and bought the standard tyres rather than the RFT versions.
Upthread you said you’d paid £166 in total for the two RFT’s and valve service;....at the moment 2 x Bridgestone Potenza S001 225/45R17 91W plus valve service = £165.96
However, With RFT: 2 x Bridgestone Potenza S001 RFT 225/45R17 91W plus valve service = £207.96
That’s a £42 difference;...perhaps they’ve charged you £42 plus an aborted call-out fee or some other admin charge that accounts for the £70
What does your original order/invoice say. There should be a full description of the tyre spec. If it says 2 x ‘RFT’ etc then TyresOnTheDrive will need to explain how they arrived at the £70 extra charge.
If ‘RFT’ isn’t noted on the original order/invoice,...???

I've just done a quote for the 2 same tyres plus TPMS servicing and it came to £207.96. I suppose location could be an issue but your original £166 for the same Bridgestone RFTs does sound a little cheap tbh.0

Good news.
TOTD called me today and agreed to refund the £70 in full as a goodwill gesture as their office had made an error in not informing me of the price difference.
Curiously the price differences the lady on the phone gave me did not add up to £70.
She quoted me £107.99 and £75.99 = 32 x 2 = £64.
Oh well, it appears that I have got a bargain pair of tyres.A man walked into a car showroom.

‘All’s well that ends well’ as they say.

I need 2 new tyres soon for a six year old BMW Series1 116i petrol F20
Bridgestone Potenza S001 RFT 225/45R17 91W
I have used a well established local independent service garage many times in the last ten years for servicing, oil changes and tyres etc and I have always been very satisfied with them.
However their price for the two tyres is £123.69 x 2 = £247.38 + VAT = £296.86
ASDA tyres online price is:
£96.61 each total £193.22
Fully Fitted Price- Includes VAT, delivery, fitting, balancing and disposal charges.
They have fitters within a few miles of my home, closer than my normal garage.
National, Black Circles and others are also cheaper than my garage.
I prefer to use my usual garage but not at an over £100 premium.
Are ASDA and other online tyre sellers safe to use?
Are the fitters likely to do a good and careful job or are they paid so little by ASDA etc they will rush the job.
Last time I had new tyres my garage refitted the existing valves as the car has Tyre Pressure Monitoring. Those valves are presumably the original now 6 year old valves. Might they need replacing?
Anything else I should consider or be wary of?
Thanks
