Bridgestone have replied to my email promptly.

    Dear Customer,

Yes this Tyre is still available in the UK.  Please check out our website to locate a nearby dealer in your area

    https://www.bridgestone.co.uk/where-to-buy/

    Good to know.
A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".
  • Its been a few years since i bought tyres from them, but i bought online from a company called " Tyreleader " a couple of times, just Uniroyal Rain Experts for a little Pug 107, their prices were very good, including delivery from Germany.
    Used local ATS for fitting.

Well it was third time lucky.

The correct tyres this time and the date stamp was only a few months ago so they are not old stock.

A very pleasant fitter who was happy to let me watch and answer any questions I had.

Thanks everyone for your helpful comments and suggestions.  :)

Pleased to hear that all is well. I’ve been on tenterhooks since Tuesday!

Finish off that bottle of wine in the fridge to celebrate,...don’t let it ‘run flat’.  :D

Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.   :p

I dislike it when someone starts a thread and never comes back to tell how it all ended.

I have a nice bottle of The Guv'nor, a Majestic Rioja style red, awaiting to go with tonight' s venison casserole. (We aren't posh, it is from Sainsburys.)

    Cheers everyone.

I’m from the North;...Run Flat Tyres, Rioja and Venison casserole!...that’s almost Royalty to us.

Joking apart, glad it’s sorted and, yes, I think it’s always appreciated when an OP expresses gratitude when a thread has been brought to a successful conclusion.

All too often threads on the ‘motoring’ forum can end in acrimony.

What I would say is, avoid winter and all season tyres in the UK. Unless you only use them in the snow/ice They very quickly wear out when used in the other 355 days of the year.

Goodyear 4 season Gen 2 on the Mondeo, they're on over 20,000 miles and used all year round. They've actually lasted longer than the Kumhos they replaced and the Vredesteins I had before that that I only got 17-18k out of. If you look at tyre reviews and the wear tests the all season fare just as well as summer tyres.

Adrian, (or anyone else), if I did change tyre, what other run flats would you recommend?

I do want to stay with run flats.

I would prefer to stay with the Bridgestones if possible as I have a part worn tyre from when I got a non repairable puncture on a front tyre and replaced both front tyres to keep them the same.

I kept the good part worn tyre in case I got another puncture. It is about 3 years old now and has been kept out of the sun in a black bin liner.
If you want to keep with the RFTs then I'd stick with the Potenza S001, probably the most longer lasting of the bunch.
Yes Neil, I hadn't really thought about it before but the RFT Potenza S001s I have just replaced on the rear axle of a rear wheel drive car are the originals and have lasted 6 years and 24,600 miles.

I would normally have replaced them last summer but with lockdown we were rarely using the car and then only for very short local trips in dry weather.

The fronts are not the originals as I had a non repairable puncture in one so I replaced both fronts a few years ago. I kept the part worn good front in case of another non repairable puncture.

Similar story here. My fronts are 30,000 miles in and still have just under 4mm, I had to change the rears back in October because of a deep cut in one found during it's MOT.

tyreleader and openeo , are having huge problems with customs and goods entering the UK , this came up in a conversation with another company and alloy wheel
most of UK supliers were happy with display wheels and the ability to "drop ship" from latge wholsalers / manufactururs in germany and other countries using DPD , within 2-3 days with the seller sending digital recept to you

now any goods to uk , vat has to be paid , AT POINT OF DELIVERY , same with import duty , so the seller now has to have parts sent to him then post on

great , apart from there is huge backlog (demon tweaks recon 300 wheels since 1st jan) and stuff is simply not turning up
