Yorkshire Energy switch to Scottish Power...

mel54 said:Have spoken to Ofgem, whilst a supplier has 15 working days to effect a "normal" switch there is no timescale when a company ceases trading. So there is the problem folks! It's about time that Ofgem sorted this issue out and set a timescale, otherwise unscrupulous companies like SP will continue to do this, and have no incentive to effect a quick transfer and can make money out of us trapped customers for as long as they like without any sanctions - disgraceful! As for trying to switch away from them before your a/c is set up by SP, you will find as I have that SP go behind your back without telling you and get you new provider to switch you back to them - unbelievable eh? So we are trapped on a higher tariff and interestingly one that has a much higher standard daily rate - so again yet another incentive for SP to drag their feet. We need help, as you all the ex-Tonik Energy customers who are just ahead of us with a similar situation with SP. It would be good if martin Lewis could take this issue up as there are issues to sort out with both SP and Ofgem itself.
Setting up of the account and billing is back office admin work that is taking much longer but you don't need to wait for that.
If you jumped in and tried to bypass the SoLR process by effecting a switch before a switch to SP had happened then, as you found you can end up with the double switch scenario. That's the exact reason OFGEM advice not to start a switch after supplier failure.

Chrisjac said:Yes I suspect most ex YE customers are in a hard place at the moment. Now, about 7 weeks since YE went bust am still trying to get my Scottish power account opened so that I can find a supplier of my own choice. This situation is very bad for my blood pressure. Scottish Power are certainly not the cheapest choice, also they wan a mandatory “smart”metre. I have absolutely no intention of staying with SP after my previous experience with them. To cut a long story short it took 2 years and a complaint to OFGEM to get a refund I was due so I really can’t afford to have another direct debit account with them. I have been happy in the past to pay monthly DD to build up credit during the summer months for the expensive winter period but it now turns out to have been a bad mistake—— I am in credit for over £600 to YE , a bankrupt company, and to think that OFGEM and Scottish Power have been advising YE customers not to cancel direct debits. DO not take this advice. I am loosing money every day that this goes on and there doesn’t seem to be much I can do about it except keep trying to get another supplier to accept me but without an existing and operating account I won’t be accepted. If you were a previous customer do you still have your old login details? I inherited a SP account when we moved into this house, but moved away from them.Try putting in your email address and asking for a password reset. My new account has been set up linked to the old one. I've been able to initiate a transfer away from 1st February. Did my meter reading today as I have been doing each month when we were with YE. Our heating is an air source heat pump so our heaviest usage is NOW when it really cold. Our annual usage circa £1400, for the month to 25/1 £273 and if you think that's bad that was YE pricing, SP £364! So clearly no incentive for them to rush, they've had my response to their email request since Dec 8th. Since YE's dessation SP has cost us £130 more already and then we read in last week's MSE emailhow the rates are rising too.0

Warning: ScottishPower under-estimates my gas usage by 91%
I've been transferred to ScottishPower from Yorkshire Energy. I received an email (Subject: Your ScottishPower Tariff Information),from ScottishPower on 21/01/2021. I clicked on the "View your tariff information" button in the email and saw:"We've provided below your estimated annual cost for your Energy Exclusive tariff. This estimate is based on information we hold about your energy use (supplied by Yorkshire Energy) as well as your new tariff prices, any applicable discounts and includes VAT. This figure will vary if your prices or energy use changes.Estimated annual cost: £570.21 based on 1,252 kWh for gas and 2,362 kWh for electricity."I thought the £570.21 annual cost was very low and checked my latest bill from Yorkshire Energy. It said:"Your personal projection for the next 12 months is:Electricity 2361 kWh £325.30Gas 13955.6 kWh £402.13"So SP's estimate for electricity is almost spot-on, but their estimate for gas is out by 12703.6 (91%). I phoned them and asked why this was. The chap fully admitted that the estimates were wrong but couldn't explain why. He waffled on about some problems getting the data, but just dismissed the wrong estimate.Have any other ex-YE customers received this email? How do your estimates compare? This couldn't be SP artificially lowering their estimates in the hope we will just see the low amount and not switch -- could it?0 -
It's taken SP over 7 weeks to transfer me over, it finally happened 2 days ago. But the final bill from YE has not yet arrived, and all SP do is send me regular emails saying that 'they are working with YE's administrators' to provide this. No dates are offered. I have a small credit balance due from YE.
By the time I get that balance transferred to SP. I shall probably already have left (transfer to Neon Reef is in progress). So, the end result will be about 10 weeks on SP's extremely expensive 'Exclusive Energy' tariff at the coldest time of year.
And, to add insult to injury, yesterday I got a 'why are you leaving?' call from SP, offering me an 'exclusive' tariff (presumably even more exclusive than the current one). I declined...
I do hope that SoLR for GNE or Simplicity is not offered to SP. If they can't cope with absorbing 74,000 new customers, then how could they possible manage 410,00? I guess we will know the answer sometime this weekend. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Whether or not they are any better than Scottish Power will become apparent in the coming weeks. SoLR is not a straightforward process, people seem to base their expectations around a normal energy supplier transfer, but it's not.1 -

Hopefully BG Gas Evolve will be faster off the mark than SP0 -
I see EDF are promising their new GNE customers that their tariffs will be lower than what they were currently on until end of Sept...hopefully BG Evolve get that message as well.
If SP had done something similar or at least minimal increase then they would have avoided a lot of aggro, extra admin and probably retained a high proportion for a good n7mber of months or longer1
