Warning: ScottishPower under-estimates my gas usage by 91%
Probably just an innocent mistake, some stressed minimum wage person working at home and trying to pacify the screaming kids and barking dog happened to enter the cubic metres (m3) figure instead of kWh.
Nothing to see here, move on...

I agree, human error I reckon - similar thing was quoted in my email.  When I checked the figures, the last digit was missed off which made a huge difference to the estimated usage.  Doesn't make any difference to charges etc. so I'm not worried.

I think there are a variety of reasons, some of it based on OFGEM estimated usage and some of it on recent usage. My first YE bill estimated annual usage was somewhat below the usage figure I gave them when I signed up, following ones also lower as a result. This seemed to be carried over into the recent SP bill BUT this one did say actual usage in the last 12 months which was/is cobblers. These figures weren't helped by the fact that the first YE bill was for a period when we were away so usage was low!
Whatever, as has already been said, it's of no consequence to the actual billing. The discrepancy might give misleading saving figures on comparison sites, when as we've already said, only use those as a guide for the deals to look at - Do your own sums based on the Unit rates and Daily charge figures :)
  • Scottish Power are the worst energy company I have ever dealt with. It is now 7 weeks since their takeover. I have had 4 different tariffs from them, the last one (19th Jan) was the most expensive. They tell me that my account is now all set to go and are demanding payment, despite there being £335 in my YE account, which they say has not been transferred yet. They promised phone calls to me on Monday and Friday last week which never happened. I have now contacted the YE Administrators (Deloitte in Leeds) and spoke to one of their partners. My next move is to send a formal complaint to Ofgem and a letter to the financial section of the Times newspaper. How these people (SP) get the become SoLR is beyond me. Fortunately I have been able to transfer my account to Bulb, which has taken about 3 weeks from start to finish and will be live on the 4th Feb. They have kept me informed every step of the way. The only email I have had from SP was at the beginning of December when YE ceased trading.

Bear in mind the credit on YE only takes you up to circa 6 December, after that you are on the Energy Exclusive rates from then to now - after all you owe for the electricity you have used between then and now, at Scottish rates - you'll then find your credit amount to be far less or maybe you owe them. Also bear in mind the last payment you would have paid YE was probably the November bill; so in effect your total credit will be less that month (Nov-Dec) less what you used in the last 2 months.

Having contacted the YE Adminstrators on Friday night, I have just received an email from YE with my final bill and credit balance.
If only SP were as good.

I already had a final balance and had completed a switch, when YE went bust. Not a word from SP who should be paying my credit back.

I'd guess that hasn't reached your SP account yet, nor likely to for a couple more weeks if the email I received today is anything to go by. (see my post on p155 of the main thread).

    Hi all,
How have people got on with this?
I've just had a bill from Scottish power for nearly £600 for what would be 3-4 months of electricity when normally under YE this would be £320
I've had to wait this 3-4 months for the switch
Just trying to call them now to complain

Was it based on actual or estimated readings?

Were the opening readings on Scottish Power the same as the closing readings on Yorkshire Energy?

YE prices ended 5 December, after that SP took over the accounts so charged on the Energy Exclusive tariff.
