ASDA home delivery not sending toilet roll!

  • As I said, I didn't mean to imply any judgment or condemnation of anyone else! Me not buying a stash of toilet rolls is entirely a personal choice I make because I would feel immoral doing that. Other people clearly don't feel that it's immoral - that's fine! I'm not saying anyone else is bad for having a stash. It's just why I personally have not and will not be buying one :)

Buying a lack of toilet rolls when you only have  two or three rolls left is not buying or keeping a stash/ stockpile.

Yes it seems quite a few people here have got 2 weeks of supplies in a stash! I could not personally do this. As I said, everyone has different things they consider the right thing to do in these very strange circumstances :)
I don't understand why you think this is wrong? Like others have said buying the larger packs is better value so it's silly not to buy them because it's something you will always use so might as well get them as cheap as you can!. I always buy a 24 pack and this lasts quite a few months; which worked out well when i bought 1 pack in February last year and then didn't need another pack until the panic buying had calmed down and there was stock on the shelves.
I also buy 24 packs. I don't think that's wrong? I wouldn't feel comfortable buying a stash of extra toilet rolls though, after the shortages caused by people doing this.

You must have a big household then if 24 packs are less than 2 weeks supply.

But the point i was making is that buying a larger pack of some items is good financial sense and is something a lot of people do to save money and this usually results in more than 2 weeks of supply naturally. I have always bought more of a product a good time before i have ran out and thought this is what most people do.

24 packs aren't less than 2 weeks supply. It lasts us maybe 2 months :)

OK so every time you buy a pack of 24 you buy two months supply and you were making out it was wrong to have 2 weeks supply but it's just natural for more people to have more than 2 weeks supply so i'm not sure why you were saying "I could not personally do this".
There is nothing wrong at all with buying another pack when you have 12 left for example and certainly won't cause any supply issues. The issues before were caused by everyone going out and buy a massive amount of food/supplies and the supermarkets not expecting the higher than normal demand.

    This struck me too.
Double standards..."I buy 2 months supply but people who buy more than 2 weeks supply are 'immoral".

I have shelves in my garage that are filled with food and other stuff - like kitchen towels, washpowder - and yes! even toilet rolls.
Most have been bought when on offer.
I have the room to store and can't see the sense of paying full price for a tin of chopped tomatoes because I'm going to make bolognaise sauce.
So during the initial lockdown when various items - loo rolls, rice, pasta - were unavailable - I used my stock.
As items came back on the shelf, I've replaced my stock, by buying one item per shop, not by clearing the shelves in one go.

If people think that by doing that I'm immoral, that's their problem, not mine.

  • I've tried to say a few times, I don't mean to pass judgment or condemnation on anyone else, and I'm sorry it's seemed that way. I don't think you're immoral at all for doing what you think is right in this situation. Everyone does something different and that's fine :)

I think your unfortunate use of the word 'immoral' on the first page of the thread:

We have indeed planned! We saw that we were running out of toilet roll so we put them in the ASDA shop. We aren't stockpiling toilet roll and don't intend to as I think that's immoral and has caused shortages. I do think this is ASDA's fault because they should have substituted with any of the other hundreds of toilet roll options available. Hopefully this isn't affecting too many people or it may get pretty unpleasant! :#
has derailed the thread from your original complaint.
And you actually used 'immoral' more than once.

Maybe ASDA didn't substitute as they have had complaints about substituting a more expensive product which may have been all they had in stock at the time your order was picked.
And as for your friends buying them, unless they were immediately behind the person picking your order, it's not correct to say they did have the toilet rolls in stock that you wanted.

And ASDA could not have been aware that supplying that particular item or any alternative was so critical to you.
  • Yes definitely! I'm not sure what a better wording would have been but that was clearly a poor one! It does feel, to me personally, like I would be doing the wrong thing if I bought a stash of supplies.

I wouldn't think 24 or 48 bog rolls is a "stash". I'd think differently to 20 bags of vermicelli or 30 tins of ravioli.

Not sure I can show my workings on this one though.
  • +1 for a pack of the Costco stuff - on the off chance any member is in / around Southport I'd be glad to grab a pack for them when I next visit (but not for a few weeks as I've just been).
