ASDA home delivery not sending toilet roll!

We are currently self-isolating (only 5 days left!) and are completely out of toilet roll. Luckily, we got an ASDA home delivery for the first time, with a pack of toilet rolls, arriving today. Not so luckily, they've sent me an email saying the item is unavailable and they won't be substituting! Any other brand or pack size would have been fine, but no. I desperately tried phoning customer support but it went to an Indian call center which hadn't heard of Bristol and kept claiming that all ASDAs in Bristol are completely out of toilet roll. Truly awful. Looking like a very unpleasant few days ahead - I've been reading "Horrible Histories" to find out some of the other options available

What's the consumer rights issue you want to discuss?3

If you have Amazon Prime, they could deliver a big pack tomorrow. Iceland usually have delivery slots within 2 days, often next day - they do 24 rolls for 6 quid. You just need to apply yourself to the problem. It's not really anyone's fault but your own - I certainly wouldn't rely on one source for a critical supply requirement in such times - Asda are hardly infringing on your consumer rights. Everyone at this time should have 14 days supply of everything critical on hand, as you could have to isolate at any time.

Fair enough. Seems I called this one wrong!
I've not been stocking up on things because there were shortages from people doing this. ASDA definitely do have toilet rolls - a friend is buying some in person and bringing them to us. I was annoyed because instead of doing a very obvious substitution they just decided to send us nothing and only tell us about that on the day.

So you have toilet roll now - problem solved.1

I'm not quite sure why the antagonism on this forum
We will have toilet roll thanks to the kindness of a friend yes. Hopefully others don't have this issue!

I'm not normally an antagonistic responder (if that is indeed how you saw it) but your post was just plain silly - nobody's fault but your own for not either planning or applying yourself in advance, certainly not Asda's fault (my husband is shielding, so we hardly ever go out and Asda and Iceland have been wonderful to us during this time and I'm very grateful) and it's certainly not a consumer rights issue.2

We have indeed planned! We saw that we were running out of toilet roll so we put them in the ASDA shop. We aren't stockpiling toilet roll and don't intend to as I think that's immoral and has caused shortages. I do think this is ASDA's fault because they should have substituted with any of the other hundreds of toilet roll options available. Hopefully this isn't affecting too many people or it may get pretty unpleasant!0

There’s a massive difference between ‘stockpiling’ and making sure that at some point in the last 10 months you’d bought an extra pack to put aside ‘just in case’

I guess everyone has their own idea of what they consider acceptable
Our shop is only allowing single bag purchases of toilet roll because of the shortages. Doing a second shop to get around that just feels very wrong to me, but everyone has different things they will or will not do!
