There was a feature on TV when loo roll buying was big news and they said that the national average statistic on usage was 2 rolls per person per week.  So anyone, like me, who buys large packs because they're cheaper per roll and more practical, according to the OPs principles, is, by definition immorally stashing bog roll.  So when I buy a 24 pack, because it works out at 3p or 4p less per roll, compared to the 9 pack, I'm stashing 6 weeks worth for the 2 of us (on top of whatever we already have on hand, because I always order when I still have a few).

Maybe the manufacturers and retailers shouldn't be making or selling such large packs, as they're actively encouraging stockpiling in small households.  They should only be selling 2 or 4 packs, unless you can prove the number of people in your household.  Funnily enough, it seems to suit them quite well to have your money up front.
  • I buy it in packs of 45 from Amazon and as a single person, that seems to make me very immoral. Thankfully, that question didn’t come up on my professional ethics exam and so I still passed.

Personally, if I was to consider either circumstance immoral, it would be not ensuring that there are enough supplies in the house for at least a 2 week period, as it makes it much more likely that an enforced period of self isolation will be broken in order to buy additional supplies, putting everyone’s lives at even more risk.

once you have a spare stock you are not stockpiling or panic buying because you only ever buy one  to replace the one you have brought into use.
And if ther eis ruch on a product then you have a spare to keep you going until you can restock your stock cupboard.
  • I didn't mean to suggest judgment or condemnation of anyone else's decision! As I said, everyone is going to have different things they think is the right thing to do, and that's fine. I certainly don't think anyone here is a bad person for doing something different from me! :)

I can understand the frustration involved here, but I don't understand what it's got to do with 'consumer rights', unless there have been some recent legal changes I'm not aware of.

Yes it seems quite a few people here have got 2 weeks of supplies in a stash! I could not personally do this. As I said, everyone has different things they consider the right thing to do in these very strange circumstances :)
I don't understand why you think this is wrong? Like others have said buying the larger packs is better value so it's silly not to buy them because it's something you will always use so might as well get them as cheap as you can!. I always buy a 24 pack and this lasts quite a few months; which worked out well when i bought 1 pack in February last year and then didn't need another pack until the panic buying had calmed down and there was stock on the shelves.

I buy 9 or 16 roll packs (for economy) and when it down to the bottom (pun intended) layer I buy another. This isn't stockpiling, simply good household management.

Two person household here, one mild IBD one severe IBS.
We always kept a good supply but got justifiably worried during lockdown #1, now get the 45 packs from Amazon, win for us as we have a good supply and win for others as we're not buying in a supermarket any longer.

We do the same, but with 24 packs

I also buy 24 packs. I don't think that's wrong? I wouldn't feel comfortable buying a stash of extra toilet rolls though, after the shortages caused by people doing this.
