Car hire prices, via the reputable agents & direct via the UK arm of the rental firm = stupidly high
I got us a weeks rental (June) for a FFAR (fullsize SUV), booked with autoeurope last year, collecting from Dollar at LAS, and that costing us £500.....
The same deal is still showing now...
Hire rates are still nailed
I have a booking for a FFAR for my May trip, which is collection from SFO, drop to LAX for 9 days. I know the average cost should be £1350+ , yet i got it booked for £833, includes fuel.
That booking was picked up from using skyscanner, and bouncing to "gotrentalcars" which is part of BSP Auto, with the rental firm being AVIS....
A pre-paid rate, yet when i booked, the email i got says "your prepaid rate will be collected 6 days before pickup".......
So my gut feeling when dealing with bottom of the barrel cheap agents from kayak/sky scanner , is that the booking will be cancelled just before pickup, as the rate i would guess puts the booking agent out of pocket..
I checked with Avis, who confirm the booking is there, but advise it could be withdrawn by the agent (GotRentalCars / BSP Autos).....
Cross that bridge when i get to it!
But for what is the common value as such for a hire car now for the week (£500+ for a small car), yeah, i would say getting my SUV in June for £500 is a good rate, although £220 more than i am happy paying based on the 30+ rentals i have done in Vegas!..
I am looking to use TURO for a daily rental in May, for the V8 cars for the 3 of us.... As cant book the V8's using Hertz, and Enterprise charge £175 a day for a V8 US muscle car! ouch!!!!
NVH - the hilton link for booking cars would be US based, so no CDW/LIS included, so the rate would be higher than the likes of HolidayAutos/alamoBrits/autoeurope/USRentACar/booking.com/expedia, etc etc

If one company is renting cars for £1000 it’s unlikely another can do the same fore less than £500
I May just go without a car but it would feel strange as it would the first time without a car in the last 20 plus years1 -
the firms that list Fox rentals, super caution there... That wont include CDW/LIS , and although you see an option to say include it, it will be a 3rd party providing it, queue the upsell at the rental desk, plus extra charges, etc etc...
Guess its a gamble trying to get the cheaper than the now normal rates, but i guess in theory, it should pay off (watch this space!)

So who is confident of a trip this year?
Virgin are taking the P with their upper prices. Direct in September £6K each. I can get BA less than half that. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -

Is it with Fox by any chance? They do come up cheapest but the price looks too good to be true and I can’t see that insurance is included, there are a lot of negative reviews for them
hope it works for you and would love a review when you get back0 -
It’s really frustrating that MyVEGAS / MyKONAMI seem to have such poor rewards at the moment! I know a lot of buffets have shut down now, but I’ve barely got anything to spend my 500k points on. Can’t use the Freeplay as not staying in an MGM property. Keep hoping for a sudden resurgence in Feb/March - we always used to get the Tender Steakhouse deal, or Bellagio buffet vouchers (they still have these but are always sold out when I look…)0

VIPcars = on cheapest rates, would be with Fox or ACE , personally i would say 1 to avoid...
When u see cars listed with Alamo, etc , then the rates are similar to that of the other brokers....
1 good thing with VIPcars, is they show the map location of pickup, so it helps identify the rental firm

I haven't played it for a while and never buy any coins, so appreciate I'm not going to get the best offers.
I would totally use it against a 2-night Bellagio stay for example, but not sure how often they come around, or if I'll ever see them without spending some real money!0
