Hi everyone, long time no see  :)

So we're hoping, all things permitted, to be in Vegas in May.  We're so very much looking forward to this trip, it will be a decompress trip as it's been a very hectic few years with no breaks from work.

On the subject of car hire, I've spent a stupid amount of time going on all car hire sites going. Prices are eyewatering or worryingly too cheap which is usually a divert from the website to Fox rentals or VIP Cars which appears to be the same thing. I'm not touching these people with a barge pole, their reviews are overwhelmingly worrying and negative.

We've compromised as we're going for 10 nights but we've hired a car for 6 days of the last part of the holiday.

I've managed to get it for £460 for 6 days from Virgin holidays of all places. It's with Alamo and includes the relevant insurances. So I'm pleased with this price our dates coincide with the EDC festival event which happens to be on whilst we're there. Hence hotel prices going through the roof also at this time.

So it may be worth a check out of virgin holidays car hire for cheaper prices for those that are looking. Same dates with BA whom we've booked a package with is £627 so a big difference.

we are doing the same as you...there for 13 nights hiring a car for 7. we are also there over the EDC weekend.

also, like you I wont touch Fox etc, we booked through Alamo brits, paid £620 for a premium car as it was only £20 more than the smallest car, having just checked the Virgin website a premium car is £798 but a full size ( what we normally have)  is £585 and an economy is £460. I would have booked with them if I hadnt already booked

as for hotel prices over that weekend OMG, i had been waiting for a comp offer which never came before I realised it was EDC weekend, then my usual downtown weekend escape at Califonia was over $300 a night so ended up at Gold Coast that weekend

https://www.bconnectedonline.com/ loads for me just now (but was very slow - however we have internet issues at the moment so can't tell if its the site or me). Your DNS could be a bit wonky - do you have a VPN you can use?

just to note, if u price up car hire, usually the cost for 5 days, 6 & 7 days = the same .......
I just done a search for myself, shows the same, econemy car with Alamo for 7 days = £460
In all fairness, thats a pretty dam good price compared to the prices we have been seeing!

** trying to find virgins cancellation terms for car hire with alamo, anyone got a link ?

Finally booked flight for August this year. Good job I did when I did though. I’ve been telling OH that Vegas is off as the flights we’re coming out at £9k from LHR. So I popped over to Google flights and started playing with some dates and starting points.
Going from Dublin with AA one stop in ORD business class I got for £3.5k for both of us. 3 hours later those same flights came out at over £10k.

The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Well, we're booked to go in ...... 9 days! We only booked last Monday, so a bit of a shock to the system. Flying with BA and staying at Hilton Resorts World, so looking forward to staying somewhere different/new!

Now got to quite quickly get a pre-departure covid test booked. Looks like it's a supervised (in person of via video) lateral flow or PCR.

Have booked a Bellagio 2/1 buffet on MyVegas, but that's all. Can't quite see any other deals that are worthwhile and can't do slot credit as we're not staying at any of those hotels. Don't think Wynn points are really worth looking into on their slots app, but we might do their buffet anyway as have always liked it. Looks like most of the buffets close at 3pm, and even then not that many open. Seems to still be plenty of happy hours around though!

Anyone else been recently or going soon - some recommendations for the testing would be good.

Thanks. I just thought I better get organised and ordered via Project Screen. They seem to be Virgin's recommended, plus saw posts on Tripadvisor. It's all a bit more complicated just now.

Glad you got booked for August. Prices are quite high, we were looking at usual September but this is partly why we have booked now....feel a bit unable to plan too far ahead.
