A friend reported last week that there was a policemen on duty outside  her Tesco to enforce shopping alone.
That does seem a little bit of a daft use of police resources.
Unless there's been particular local issues. Occassional visibility is one way of getting people to permanently change their habits. The message soon gets passed around.

Hubby went down to Asda by himself last night and said just after him a family of 7 (2 adults and 5 kids) were trying to get in and the bloke was arguing with security.  Unbelievable!

I wish people will understand going essential shopping isn't a family day out! From what my friends who work in supermarkets tell me that these customers who shop in families, don't usually have a shopping list (and sometimes bags too) so go round the store "what we like for milk?" "dunno, get 4 pints" and spontaneously buy items. Then get kids wanting to buy sweets/crisps/other rubbish. This isn't very MSE at all. Also what's the chances are that they are the type of people that bin loads of food out?

Since my friend shops on her own, sticking to a list and a meal plan she sets out the day before she goes shopping, she has saved about £80-100 a month,

And this is one of the reasons why there are so many more children in schools this lockdown, the list of key workers is so wide that, for example, if one parent has a job at Costa, McDonalds etc, even if just a few hours a week, they are a ‘key worker’ and can send their children in to school, even if they work evenings and are sat at home all day.

IMO the list of essential services and key workers needs to be tightened up.

My shopping trips are a mixture of what I know I need and wandering round looking for inspiration/offers/whatever.
    Nothing wrong with that.
PS I am not the "type" who bins lots of food, whatever that means.

Who would you remove from the list?

Well I do my own car servicing. My wife wants an air fryer. She reckons we can make our own crisps.

For the people who are classed as "Critical" workers I would remove the following only remove "religious staff", however I would also much more strictly enforce the criteria, which too often are stretched to breaking point. With nearly three times as many people claiming in 2021 that they are "Critical workers" as were "Key workers" during the first lockdown. We have not suddenly tripled the number of people working in critical professions, we have just allowed the definition to be applied far too loosely.
