Yorkshire Energy take over by Scottish Power

As per my original comment re. my not signing up for SP. I received a call from the Complaints at SP, this morning, which had been scheduled for tomorrow afternoon and they will not be charging me any extra charges above my YE account ! My switch to Shell - who are charging me similar amount to YE will go through on the 1/02/21. It pays to complain and to escalate, if one is not happy with the Call Centre explanation and also to query ‘big business’ !!!
As to whom would be supplying my electricity, that is immaterial, as long as the customer is given the choice and the relevant information, which I wasn’t. Being placed on a tariff with double the standing charge and a higher unit rate without my agreement smacks of profiteering.
Apparently my outstanding monies will be returned ‘in due course’ !0 -
Well done to you if SP come good on their word and now charge you the unit/SC rates that YE were charging before their demise. Are you absolutely certain that the advisor was not referring/talking/thinking about your DD amount which is listed on my account (and probably yours too) as being the same as that which we paid to YE.Malcmandy said:As per my original comment re. my not signing up for SP. Do you have a link to the National Gas and Electricity databases?bagand96 said:
Have you checked to see whether SP are listed as your energy provider on the National Gas and Electricity databases? If they are (and it seems for most people on here they are by now) then there's nothing to stop you starting a switch now.YorkieMan2 said:
Join the club. I contacted Scottish Power yesterday and got a response from their third world based customer service centre that it would still take another two weeks to complete the transfer. Meanwhile, they gave me details of the 'Exclusive' tariff they have put YE customers on. It's extortionate. My estimate for a years energy from YE was £1350 for this year. SP's tariff add over £250 to that. No wonder they are so tardy. Can't wait to move onto another supplier with UK support and far cheaper prices. They are not doing anyone any favours taking on YE customers - but see it as an opportunity to make excessive charges.SDSdav said:Hello. I recieved an email at the begining of December stating that YE was going into administration and that Scottish Power were taking over. Yet I still have not received a "Welcome Pack" or details of my tarrif. I spoke to Scottish Power this morning and they said the take over was still ongoing. Has anyone formally with YE completed their switch yet or are all former YE customers still waiting?
Thank you.

Links for both utilities in this Ofgem document.3 -
As per @[Deleted User] post. The Gas is easy, it's one site nationally https://www.findmysupplier.energy/ For electricity you first need to find out who the Electricity Distributor for your region is, then search on their website.YorkieMan2 said:

If SP are charging the OP YE rates they are opening up a hornets nest. I think maybe you are right re DD settingsDerwentMailman said:

I will be contacting them and asking for the same as will many many more, but I doubt they are doing that0 -
Thank you DerwentMailman. Having checked I see the SP are listed as my supplier for both Gas and Electricity. However, SP tell me that they are still in the process of changing my account and will be in touch. Given that they are now charging extortionate rates there seems no effort on their part to speed up the process. If I set the wheels in motion to switch to another supplier might this prompt SP to complete the process do you think?Ofgem states "You can shop around or ask them to put you on a different tariff. You won’t be charged any exit fees." which to me sounds like there will be no exit fees full stop. However, SP says there will be no exit fees if I switch to another SP tariff. Implying, but confirmed by email from them, that if I switch to another supplier they will charge exit fees.Anyone have anything to add?

I have been switched to Scottish Power (SCP) from Yorkshire Energy (YE) by Ofgem on tariff 'Energy Exclusive' but my direct debit will continue at £96.84/month for the moment according to SCP. SCP would not give me a true monthly figure for the future based on my past usage but did supply unit costs of their tariff. I worked these out to be £125.50 for a mild winter and £134.83 for a bad winter so I could be paying between approximately £29 and £38 more than with YE. This is cause enough for me to shift from SCP as I am sure I can get cheaper energy elsewhere. The question is when is it advisable to do so as SCP say hang on until they provide more information (debit or credit from YE?). In the meantime I am using energy that costs more. I should add that I use above average energy due to having a 2.8kwh heater on all winter (on thermostat) in my greenhouse. I read my meters and send my supplier the information every month and keep the record on my pc. This enables me to compare good years with bad and to counteract any supplier trying to dupe me into thinking I am using more energy.0

Hell will freeze over before SP sets up our accounts properly and pays back any credits due to former YE-customers. Do not believe what they are telling you especially about getting back in touch. You can set the wheels in motion right now but I doubt it will make SP complete their accounts setup process any faster. You will not be charged exit fees if you move from SP to another supplier. I set the wheels in motion on 13th January to Avro with a switch date of 2nd/3rd February. Even SP recognise this with their incomplete accounts.YorkieMan2 said:Thank you DerwentMailman. As there is already a lengthy thread on this topic, with many answers and experiences of others, and "tricks" and workarounds to do various things, why don't people have a read -
