Checked the electric and gas databases  just now and I am with sp so what is going on??
As you are now officially with SP you can start switching tonight and battle with SP later on.
Start comparing with Citizens Advice and 'Which? Switch', using annual kWh from actual meter readings.
Remember to send SP the closing readings, take photos and save all your bills off line.
Thanks I already have a tariff lined up with eon.  My issue is that the sp cc person said I wasn't able to switch as I had jumped the gun!  He rally riled me up talking to me like I was a 3 year old.  Saying they hadn't got the reading from GB energy and they didn't know how much energy I had used.  I can tell them exactly how much!  My account with sp shows electricity due to go on 27 Jan 2021 but gas due to go in 2014 so there is clearly something very wrong.  Depserate to get off this extortionate tariff so I'm not laid awake worrying.  It's not even like I can turn my heating off as I am being stung on the standing charge more than the kwh rate.  Fuming as the bloke at the contact centre refused to acknowledge I had been forced onto this tariff and implied in some way I was responsible for the charges!!
As per many posts on the main thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6220161/yorkshire-energy/ it's all bull. Either the agent you spoke to is badly trained or totally ignorant. If SP are showing as your supplier on the National/Regional databases, you can instigate a switch. The only delay might be 10 working days from when SP showed up as your supplier (an OFGEM rule). It may take god knows how long for your SP account to get updated with all the correct information, the balance from GB?? (did you mean that or YE) and etc. but that is separate. They'll probably take a DD at the same rate as your previous one was, towards energy you've used with them so far. It'll all get balanced out eventually when you get any credit from your previous supplier transferred to the account. Have you got an SP account number? If a DD has been set up on your bank account you can get it from the reference number, or a phone call to SP. Which number did you use for your call the so called "dedicated help line" or their main number?
@Gerry1 has already given you the best advise about how to proceed, keep your own records/proof of everything just in case.
If you are prepared to forego the "cooling off" period and your chosen new supplier is as well, you might be able to move very quickly - the quickest I saw someone posted in the main thread was their electricity in 6 days :open_mouth:

Thanks I have an account with sp  and can see it.  They haven't taken any money this month although they have said they will take the 28 I normally paid previous supplier.  Thanks for this as it has given me confidence to get on with moving ASAP

Hmmm... Are you sure E.On really are the cheapest?
Did you check those two websites and see whether separate fuels are cheaper than dual fuel?
Yes I used cheap energy club and after two failed energy companies cannot afford to take the risk to move to an unknown provider I can't face going through all of this again
Definitely not the best site to use to compare, CAB or Which are the best to compare with

I think energyhelpline or moneysupermarket are the best but be sure to tick the box to show all providers and not just the ones they can switch you to. You switch through them it always costs you more but going direct as I did to Neon Reef is way cheaper ,12p standing charge 11p per kwh not 23p and 18p that Scottish Power want, owned by a Spanish company if you didn't know.

It can often cost more if you go to the energy companies' websites because many (notably British Gas) make their best deals only available via third parties.

... and SP too. You have to use 3rd party sites for the decent rates.

Small companies all seem to be in debt, angling on getting large enough to be taken over by a larger supplier before they go bust, hence why so many companies go under with cheap price.
  • To see the extent of the rate differentials a look at say Uswitch and you will see "Uswitch Exclusive". "Comparison site Exclusive" on many of the tariffs - so with mine I can see eon, Octopus, British Gas, Scottish Power, Shell before I see the first one that is not marked in this way (Pure Planet).  It appears to have been this way for a number of years now.

Work out your actual costs based on the tariff rates and not what the site says the differences are as the sites can be very inaccurate. For example, Which? and Citizens Advice site seem accurate but Uswitch were wildly inaccurate.

In most cases I think you are preaching to the converted :) (which you'll probably see on reading the main Yorkshire Energy thread).
  • Finally SP switch confirmed but still awaiting refund from Yorkshire energy ..
Does any one have any help as to how we can get this soonest..?
If anyone still has issues with SP then can I suggest you harass them on special  line dedicated to priority help !!
    Tel no is 0800 559 3309
    Good luck everybody

I got a SP letter today and was confused by it the i looked at my address again which was correct and it was for someone else and their bill ,so i went online to my account and there was just a reading for electric which was wrong with a reading saying 30th December and a actual read, they have not been to read my meter and the only reading i have give was the 7th December, also no gas read showing at all.Rang them to complain and they say we have not got any readings.     In between going back and forth to her manager and then trying to get me  to drop my complaint i was one and a half hours on the phone, now waiting for there complaints team to ring on the 15th,also just logged in to my account now and they still have not updated my account,Grrr.
