Electric car costs and additional costs

Most of the EVs you have all mentioned would be regarded as small city cars and for that purpose/size/bracket then yes they probably do make sense.
Once you move up to be a more comparable size to the OPs A5 -- then the price difference can be quite significant (granted, I can't find anything that is 4x on a like for like basis)
Yes - I keep hearing about the great residual value - which I agree is very good currently, but once more second hand vehicles hit the market and more manufacturers present a wider range, expect the residual value to plummet
There is a strong case for some people to swap to EV but cost and/or practicality is still a block for many1 -
Exactly, the point is we are all supposed to be driving EV yesterday because the rate of climate change is accelerating, we need this technology to be affordable so everyone can start using it and discarding the current polluting problems.0

The vast majority of roads are paid for out of local authority funds.wongataa said:
As VED is nothing to do with roads that is a silly comment. VED just goes in the same pot as all other tax revenue. Roads are paid for out of everyone's taxes so anyone who pays any taxes can easily complain about the state of roads.dipsomaniac said:5000 miles and you pay £0 VED at the moment? Only the trunk network is funded centrally.0 -
@Jack_Cork, you are quite correct!0

You haven't been looking very thoroughly then.SPlatten said:I have been looking at electric cars...
Why isn't there some sort of insensitive or subsidy that encourages people to go electric?1 -
Yes I can. I still pay tax....dipsomaniac said:5000 miles and you pay £0 VED at the moment? At least you can't complain about the state of the roads.
I would be really worried if a 2 year old car didn't sail through the next 2 MOT's.
What happens at 8 years if the batteries cause too much range anxiety? How much do they cost to replace? Does the car get scrapped?
Why would I suddenly have range anxiety after 8yrs? It's lost 2% in 4yrs, so even if it for some reason accelerated and lost double that in the next two years (and all data suggests the complete opposite happens, that degradation is fastest in the first years, and then levels off), I would be at 94%....why on earth would I worry about replacing them at 94%?
That equates to an average loss of about 9miles of range, given that I average 150miles all year round.2 -
@Supersonos, I've been looking at cars that are reliable and quality, is there a list you can suggest?0

Range anxiety is a problem with ev. I can get in my £200 focus and drive anywhere in England without stopping. You can't do that in a £40k+ ev car"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson1 -
Yes, I know it goes into a central fund. That's because VED raises £40bn and only £11bn is spent on roadswongataa said:
